Durbin dodges questions on no 'God,' 'Jerusalem' in Democratic Party platform (VIDEO)

On Fox News Channel’s “Special Report” on Tuesday, Democratic Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin attempted to downplay news from earlier in the day that language about “God” and “Jerusalem” was stricken from the Democratic Party platform.

Durbin told host Bret Baier, who was broadcasting from the scene of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., that it is improper to glean from this that Democrats are godless people.

“Well, I can just basically tell you if the narrative that is being presented on your station and through your channel and your network is that the Democrats are godless people, they ought to know better,” Durbin said. “God is not a franchise of the Republican Party. Those of us who believe in God and those of us who dedicated our lives to helping others in the name of God don’t want to take a second seat to anyone who is suggesting that one word out of the platform means that the Democrats across America are godless.”

And Durbin attacked Baier, suggesting this was not a pressing issue, whereas jobs and the economy are.

“I’m just telling you that you are harping on a trifle,” he said. “We know that both parties are devoted to this country. Both parties are God-fearing parties. Let’s get on with the agenda about creating jobs in America, about justice in this country.”

In answer to your question, I do believe Michelle did say "God bless America" at the end of her speech.

I can't say for sure because I can't stand to watch any of these speakers...but someone mentioned it on an earlier thread.

Well ....I must say .... we have heard the usual reason given to us for this type of thing at least a million times before .... and I guarantee that it will be the same "Cover" this time when the Dems begin to take fire for these fumbles.

..... I mean ... the reason is obviously going to be .... "OOPS .... it was a Typo and by the time they noticed the error it was too late to make the change!!!" ..... Oddly, the democrats on the after-convention shows are sounding like Clergy when asked about the omission.

Let’s watch the story fester awhile.... That removal of ‘God’, in conjunction with the hostilities toward Catholics via HHS actions, is sealing Obama’s political doom with more people than he can fathom.

He’s openly hostile to certain faiths, (Christian), and overly tolerant of others, (Islam).

But to remove “God” 60 days out from election. The president is committing political suicide before our eyes and I don’t think he sees it — which is fine by me!!

I can’t escape the feeling that this is going to be a landslide election of Romney.

The best part, the juicy part, was when Bret asked why Obama did not get his stuff passed while he had both houses with Democrat control. Durban replied Teddy Kennedy was sick and couldn’t come to the floor to vote.

He blamed a dead man for Obama’s failure.
