I understand where you are coming from. But if the draft were in force and I was of age and got drafted — country comes before family.
You have no freedoms without the military protecting our country.
That whole “draft” thing didn’t come to my mind, because I’m so far out of eligibility.
However, IIRC, even during draft times, if the family lacked a father, they provided an exemption for a son to take care of the family. Also, the whole point of “Saving Private Ryan” was that he was the last surviving son of that family.
