How can they tell? They could copy them and no one would be able to tell it happened. PDF files on a thumb drive are easily concealed. If it happened, it might be an inside job from someone in their company trying to score big $$$........

IF ( a very big IF ) this is true, then PWC is dumber than a box of rocks. I have done tax returns for individuals in the past and when I give them the electronic files, they are encrypted with the highest security currently available. The client receives the file and the decryption key with my recommendation that the disk goes into a safe or safe deposit and the key be kept elsewhere. I keep my copies in a master encryption file (by year) in a safe for the 7 year period and then destroy the media.
If PWC did not encrypt the files of someone who has been running for President for the past 6 years, ... words and thoughts fail. However, proving that it was PWC and not a government leak would be difficult in extreme to prove just from looking at form images.
