DNC attendees: Yeah, it’s pretty awesome to belong to the government

Revealing Politics asked DNC attendees and delegates in Charlotte what they thought of one of the themes of the DNC promotional video that played in the arena last night— “The government is the only thing we all belong to.” The Obama campaign is backing away from the video, but DNC attendees sure aren’t.

“Regardless of where you live, you’re gonna be owned by someone at some point. I think the American government so far has been a fair government and I don’t necessarily hate that I’m OWNED by them at this point.”

As a Christian, I contend that Christians don't hate you. I would admit to hating the sin of Agnosticism, but not you, brother. I don't hate you.

Would you consider amending your statement?

Actually, I think you should take Christians off the list, or at least make provision for those who understand their own faith. Hating somebody for having rational doubts while still searching for answers they can understand would be pretty silly since most if not all Christians have been in that same position at one time or another. If they tell you otherwise it's like a soldier saying he was not scared in combat. He's either a fool or a liar. Suggested reading: C.S. Lewis' Mere Christianity

We're supposed to pray that it (Grace) sooner or later comes to you and to answer any and all your questions with patience. Doesn't always work that way but hey, we're human too.

Agnosticism is a sin? I always viewed it as a statement of not knowing...not knowing is a sin? If I don't know, how do I stop not knowing? I've been trained by the Catholic church...was even an altar boy back in the Latin Mass days...yet I still don't know. I don't feel like a sinner yet you tell me that no Christians hate me contrary to my own experiences. But now that I know someone who speaks for all Christians at least I'll have someone to whom I can pose my probing, personal questions. Thanks so much.

I enjoy the same distinctions for the same reasons.

I am also cursed in that men hate me because I enjoy some popularity with women who eventually come to hate me because.........I am a man. Go figure.

You'd make a good Democratic National Chair with that kind of spin on my words. If I had Deb's number, I'd call her and let her know she's got a compatriot.

As for answers to your probing questions, I would simply ask you to seek God's truth in His words, the Bible. I am nothing more than a weak servant. I certainly don't have all the answers. But they're all there for the finding. I would say, in my opinion, on the other side of not knowing for certain if there is a God (or if the one true God exists), is faith. I'll leave it at that.

When you say that "Christians hate you" you are in fact taking it upon yourself to speak for all Christians. Perhaps you could ask your probing personal questions to a mirror as you seem to know what all Christians think.

When the poster states that as a Christian he does not hate you he is speaking for himself and biblical principle not all Christians.

You twisted his words to mean something completely different from what he said, something that was said in a loving spirit, while hypocritically ignoring that your own position was the one that actually claimed to speak for all Christians. Ironic isn't it? Not to mention that your response was a bit rude and sarcastic to someone that bothered to take the time out of their day to tell you that they didn't hate you.

To waylay what could be construed as your burgeoning persecution complex let me assure you that not all Christians and Republicans hate you. I've been an agnostic, and I knew many Christians that still loved me. I am a strict constitutionalist and I have Republican friends. For that matter I am a republican and I don't hate myself, or you for that matter. I am also an individualist and sure while collectivists hate me, they hate everyone especially themselves.

Your initial break with logic would put you in hot water with Rand, but I doubt she would jump right to saying she hated you. Rand was a rabid atheist so even she failed to live up to a perfect objectivist standard, like Christians fail to live up to the perfect model of Christ, so I'm sure she would cut you a little slack.
