Little known piece of history: John Adams, second President of the US and firmly anti-slavery, was himself briefly a slave owner. He was given the “gift” of a young black woman. He “owned” her for only the length of time required to draw up her manumission papers.
Well, it’s certainly a part of history I wasn’t aware of.
