Shotgun-Wielding Mom Saves Two-Year-Old From Kidnapper (CA)

Stealing candy from a baby is pretty easy, but stealing a baby from a gun-toting mother is a whole different story.

Just this past Tuesday, Brianne Rodriguez was placed in a deadly struggle with the fate of her two-year-old daughter hanging in the balance.

At around 8:40 a.m., a man knocked on Rodriguez’s front door of her home in Fresno County, California, but she wisely decided not to answer. A few moments later Rodriguez heard somebody breaking in through the backdoor and things quickly went from bad to worse when the ski mask-wearing intruder attacked Rodriguez. She said the man threw a chair at her, which she tripped over and fell, and that's when her two-year-old daughter started screaming. The intruder saw the little girl and proceeded to walk towards her.

Rodriguez described the terrifying moment, "I was thinking, 'please God don’t let him take my baby.'" She said she grabbed at the man, but he just threw her back to the ground and began kicking her in the ribs and face.

While she was subdued the man then grabbed the helpless chiled, put his hand around her mouth, snatched Rodriguez's purse and then attempted to flee to his car. Though battered, Rodriguez said she knew she had to do something.

"I’m here now, I need to get her, to protect my baby," Rodriguez recalled. "I kicked into lioness mode, protecting my cub."

She said she stumbled to the front of her house, grabbed an unloaded shotgun that she kept in the closet, and confronted the man in her front yard as he made his dash around the house towards his car. She gave the man a very simple ultimatum: drop the child or die.

f the man had called Rodriguez on her bluff, we probably would have turned on the news earlier this week to an Amber Alert. Luckily, the would-be kidnapper dropped the girl and fled the scene. The story also would have gone a lot differently if Rodriguez had enough time to load the gun before confronting him – the kidnapper probably wouldn't have made it two steps before getting transformed into a spaghetti strainer.

Police are investigating the crime and currently looking for the suspect, who is described as a white or light Hispanic man with dirty blonde hair.

Whew – a story like this almost gives you chills, doesn’t it?

We think that Rodriguez is a true hero and deserves the Mom of the Year award, but this humble mother claims that she just did what came naturally, "I had to do something. I wasn’t just going to sit there and watch someone take off with my baby. It’s nothing to commend. I just did what I had to do."

Somewhat surprisingly, this isn't the first time that somebody’s invaded Rodriguez’s home. About a year ago somebody tried to break in," Rodriguez said. "And I scared him off with a gun. I guess I’m Annie Oakley."

The mere introduction of a gun defuses the situation and causes the criminal to flee about 95% of the time.

Un fortunately, allowing the scum to escape means they will commit more crime.

Based on my rather limited experience, few things more quickly bring calm to a chaotic situation than the sound of a 12ga. racking a round into the chamber.

That’s a fact, brother. Anyone who would dare attempt to break into this home with either one of us present would be facing either a 12 gauge, a .357, a 9mm, a .38, a .40, or one of two .45’s.....ALL loaded, distributed strategically around the house. It would be quick; it would be ugly.

Statistic:
The majority of children abducted by strangers are dead within 4 hours.
Most of the rest are dead within 24 hours.

It’s a shame he lived to strike again. Killing the piece of filth would have been a boon to the community.

Maybe the next victim, if she survives the encounter will manage to take him out.

My thought exactly. And she needs to keep it loaded.

She ain’t Annie Oakley. She’s damn lucky and she played roulette with her kids’ life with an empty gun.

Glad she won, but she ought to keep the damn thing loaded or always have a round or two handy. Plus it’s community service to kill scumbags so they don’t bother anyone else ever again.

I think that one needs a trigger lock on a loaded shotgun if children are present in the home. So if loaded, one still needs to unlock the trigger lock, or have no lock and then load it, or retrieve it from a lockbox. California is so screwed up. Better just to risk getting caught with a loaded shotgun near children and face the consequences, while keeping it out of their hands.
