Absolutely, both sides say similar things. But show me any hate from the GOP convention. Dems must be really unhappy people ... that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

“I guess we’ll start with the hotel. Ours is a ****hole. A $250-a-night mildewy rathole for truckers and prostitutes on a decimated strip mall. Charlotte is the armpit of the south, a glorified half-dead exurb with some tall buildings planted in the middle. There are skeezy-looking tattoo shops everywhere, and none of the stores are open past midnight.”

LOL

This is why we should tell people to READ Obama’s speech. His cadence and rhetoric make the speech appear gallant. It was anything but. Read the speech and see how empty it is of solutions, facts, stats and policies that actually work. He thrilled the lemmings and the moron vote but I doubt that he captured back any Indies or Reagan Dems.

Spoken like an up-stater.

The third capitol building (1824–1836), also built in Vandalia, was the scene of most of the service of Abraham Lincoln as a member of the Illinois state legislature.

This convention seems to have the same vague feeling of disorder and catastrophe-waiting-to-happen as did the 1968 ‘rat convention, when protesters battling police in the streets of Chicago late into the night turned to be the prevailing recollection most people carried into the fall election, leading to Hubert Humphrey’s defeat - or maybe it’s just wishful thinking......

Knight’s Inn is not reputed to be a cushy hotel. I wonder if the owners wore turbans. Bad as Charlotte may have been..it could have been worse..say Detroit:)

“The Knights Inn was the worst hotel I have ever seen, and I’ve stayed in many bad motels in my life. Two guys were dealing drugs in the room next to me, and a prostitute was working out of the parking lot. And this was in the early afternoon. The room itself was dirty, full of other people’s stuff, etc.

I have never requested a hotel change in 3 years at NR. This was the first time I felt absolutely compelled.

LOL..nightmare all the way around.

Having a convention in Charlotte was just another bad choice made by the DNC. Nothing against Charlotte, its just isn't big enough.

As for the convention program, one word. "JUVNILE."

Department of Feelings & Happiness

Happiness, maybe, but the TSA will likely fight over jurisdiction over 'feelings'....

Charlotte is the armpit of the south, a glorified half-dead exurb with some tall buildings planted in the middle. There are skeezy-looking tattoo shops everywhere, and none of the stores are open past midnight.

It's a nice place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit there.

Seriously though, the south side is very nice. The surrounding towns are all nice (including Lake Norman to the north, which is where I live), but the rest of the city is pretty much what you'd expect from a majority-black, Democrat area, which is to say a place you wouldn't want to get lost in.

These idiots had no idea what they were getting into and they thought they could lazily pick any random hotel in the city without doing research and that it'd be okay. Is there any city in America or the world where you can do that, realistically? If the decent places in the county were all taken, they should've shopped around the neighboring counties (which are all Republican and with the exception of Gaston, largely nice).

I'm not going uptown for a while. Not until it's been disinfected.

Oh right, I knew we had a former capital city (2 actually, the first one was practically in Missouri and pretty much swallowed by the mighty Mississip) but I didn’t know the capital was still outside Springfield by the time Abe was elected to the legislature. The Springfield chamber of commerce had worked hard to tie Abe to that city.

Vandalia. I was there in Jan ‘84 and think I went back in Nov ‘84 while going past on I-70. My favorite place in ILL. I hope it hasn’t changed since my visits.

Except for a drive to Pittsburgh-Cleveland in ‘95, I haven’t been out of the northeast since ‘85. I’ve just been too busy to travel. I’ve just got to get out more often.
