SPARKS, Nev. Seizing on a new jobs report that showed the pace of the countrys economic recovery remains sluggish at best, Paul Ryan on Friday argued that the best way to turn around Americas fortunes is to put a new president in the White House.
Flanked by six red, white and blue truck cabs and with a rugged mountain backdrop behind him, Ryan told a crowd of several hundred people at a trucking equipment company just outside of Reno that the jobs report was some pretty disappointing news.
We learned today that for every person that got a job, nearly four people stopped looking for a job, Ryan said at Peterbilt Truck Parks and Equipment. They gave up. We cant keep doing this. . . . Friends, this is not an economic recovery. This is not anywhere close to an economic recovery. We need a new president, and we need a real economic recovery.
(snip)
The president gave a big speech last night, Ryan said to scattered boos. President Obama is not a bad guy. Hes good at giving great speeches. Hes just really bad at creating jobs. . . . If we want the next four years to be any different from the last four years, we need a new president.
(snip)
Ryan also briefly took aim at Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.), whom he blamed for the Senates failure to pass a budget over the past three years.
Friends, this is not governing, he said. This is kicking the can. This is blaming other people. This is not responsibility. This is not leadership. We have got to get this budget under control, otherwise we will wind up just like Europe. If you practice European economics, youll get European results.

Ryan pulled up in a bus with a wrap that said "CONSERVATIVE" along the top (couldn't make out the word beneath, as it was blocked by people). There were people there who traveled from Montana, California, Utah, and Arizona.
The story leaves out a speech by the owner of Peterbilt Truck Parts (who donated his huge frontage to hold the event), and he brought up how the current price of diesel was harming the trucking industry -- an integral part of the Reno-Tahoe-Sparks area. The majority of goods on store shelves get their via truck, as we all know, so when diesel goes up, the cost of the majority of goods goes up. Right now, gas is $4 per gallon in Northern Nevada. This state has record unemployment.
Ryan altered his stump speech quite a bit to kick off the ground game of the campaign, but the message is very clear.
But Obama CAN create low paying jobs in the food service and bar businesses!
Leave it to the AssPressitutes to deflate the numbers. We need to out smart these bastards! We need to post pictures of the crowd before the mediaWHORES report on it. We have to be one step ahead of the game!
It definitely wasn’t a few hundred. We were in the back. Need to snag my husband’s phone and upload pics he took.
It is a little strange to me. I was in Reno last weekend and paid $4.00 per gal for gas, and right across the border in California it is also $4.00 per gal. Normally Nevada's gas prices are .30 to 40 cents per gal lower than California.
Thanks for visiting! :)
Wasn’t there a refinery fire recently in CA? Think that might have something to do with it. All I know is that we have lower gas taxes than CA, and CA prices are dependent on where you fill.
Take a look at gasbuddy.com
but, but the article said there were just a few hundred.
If there were only a few hundred, then we would have taken the shuttle provided to our car parked about a half mile away instead of hoofing it. :p
That line afterwards for shuttles to parking lots was brutal.
“Ryan said to scattered boos. President Obama is not a bad guy.”
Paul, I really like you, but you have to stop saying this. Obama is a bad guy!! He has tried to destroy this country! I know you are trying to draw a parallel, but find another way to do it!! He is a bad fing guy!!!!!!! He is our enemy! He is an enemy of all the freedom loving citizens of this country!!
Aha! Here is a video shot about an hour before the event. I stood in one place the whole time — when the video pans to the water tent, imagine that area packed with people as well.

This source says 2,500 people attended:

SPARKS Fresh on the heels of another disappointing jobs report, Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan held a brief rally here today, telling a crowd of 2,500 at a local small business that President Obama needs to be replaced to get the country back on track.

I think that is a low-end estimate, but WP is still wrong.
fire at the richmond refinery and a big fire in venezuala’s largest refinery.
I live in the Eastern Sierra, so I’m up there all the time. Love the new freeway between Reno and Carson City, drove it the first day it opened. No more of that “Slow to 50,” “We said slow to 50,” “We mean slowwww to 50” in Pleasant Valley.
There must have been a ton in that tent because outside the tent was probably 400.
No, all the open spaces you see in that video were filled in by the time Ryan took the stage.
That video was taken at least an hour or two before the event even started.
Oh that is good. I am glad to see who is there anyway. I don’t know why numbers are so important. Even if one person shows up, they should do the exact same thing as if there were millions.
very nice, thank you
This looks like an even better one

LOL.. well we all know that he Washington Post is in the tank for Romney.

The state fuel taxes may be a factor but remember Cali-
fornia has a special formula that adds to the cost. Not
sure if Nevada now sells the same stuff but if you see
gas prices in Reno close to that of California then you
can almost bet that the station owner is making bank
from the weekend gamblers from the Bay Area and
Sac. Pretty sure that the Reno locals know where to go
to fill up. At least that is what various Reno friends tell
me.
Thanks for the picture. Ryan really pulled a huge crowd after about a 24 hour notice.
