CNBC's Harwood: Eastwood Speech 'Big Blunder, Big Set-Back For Romney'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 09/08/2012 7:10:40 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Guess John Harwood was feeling lucky today. CNBC's chief Washington correspondent went on the Today show and boldly proclaimed that not only did Clint Eastwood not accomplish his mission with his RNC speech, but that the speech is almost universally viewed by political professionals as "a big blunder, a big set-back for Mitt Romney."

Harwood did not adduce a scintilla of evidence in support of his contention that the speech hurt Romney. And his universe of pundits apparently does not include people like Jonah Goldberg or Mark Steyn.

I watch CNBC with great regularity, because it is an excellent source for equity market related information. Judging from his body language, over the years, John Harwood is not happy with news that supports Conservatives, or Conservative positions. He is also, however, not comfortable with admitting a bias. This is but one of a myriad of examples of how he handles his discomfort.

I would not worry about what he said. Of course it does not accord with the reality of Eastwood's effect. It is merely an example of how Harwood handles some aspects of his employment.

He is probably a nice man personally--just indoctrinated in imaginary concerns.

Harwood’s statement is a no-brainer. It would be counter productive for the liberal media and punditry to declare Mr. Eastwood’s speech a success.

Google Harwood. He has quite a record at newsbusters.org of stuff like this.

I don't know what else John Harwood may have said or done, but based on everything newsbusters has posted it's hard to deny that he's essentially been a Democrat operative for some time now.

How about the history of incumbents vs. unemployment of 8% or higher?

I watched this morning. Hahaha! Big blunder - big setback, our asses. He’s just upset that Clint is once again speaking out. Oh! how I love to hear Clint say that Obama is the biggest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people. That is why lefty Harwood is upset. Love it!!!

If it were such a failure then why is the left and their media still talking about it? If it didn’t have a ring of truth, why can’t the left let it go?

Harwood said it because he does not like what Eastwood said. Like most liberal prognosticators, he has little or nor proof for his assertions.

I suppose it gives some hope but the polls certainly have not shown it. My belief is if unemployment was under 8 Obama would be way ahead. Hard to quantify this but FDR did not have a problem when unemployment was high. We had a meltdown and the democrats have been able to frame the argument well.

All 3 trackers have shown significant improvements post convention. Gallup shows 3 points on a 7 day rolling with the 3 day job approval skyrocketing up to 52 42 spread. You can come back and say bad sample or bad polling but no mistaking movement. Rasmussen has moved along with Rueters a similar amount.

I still believe it is about the candidates. Obama comes off more likable and transparent to the voters. It does not matter what we believe. Romney is running a horrible campaign and ran a horrible convention.

Hi.

Just wanted to bump this thread so Harwood could see his folly.

Yes, I do have it on good authority that Harwood reads FR.

I can see November from my Lanai.

Harwood can think whatever he likes; everyone I’ve talked to loved it.
