Save Market Supermakets' labor unions have approved a new contract with the Modesto grocery chain that includes wage and benefit concessions, the union announced today.

The announcement means Save Mart is the first of the three unionized grocers in Northern California to secure labor cost savings from the United Food and Commercial Workers. Raley's and Safeway Inc. are still struggling through negotiations that began last October.

UFCW Local 5 in San Jose was the last of the three locals to approve the contract. Members actually voted to reject the contract in balloting that ended Friday, but Local 5's executive board planned to invoke union rules and ratify the deal on the members' behalf, . . .

This is what liberals mean by "making every vote count."

No, that is why over 60% of Union members hate their unions they are forced to belong to!

Unions are only in on negotiations to make sure the union profits, the worker gets the shaft from the employer, the union and the public!

I hate effin’ unions with a white hot passion.

The job of unions is to collect union dues.

Whoever is working for this company under the just ‘ratified’ contract will be livid when news of this deal reaches them.

‘Union’...LOL.

Like it’s a big thing.

The unions will destroy the markets, as unions always do - parasites feeding off the host until the host is dead.

Then, like the good, little Marxists they are, they’ll insist that the still employed feed their earnings into the government coffers so they can suck away at the government teat.

I worked for a unionized supermarket once. The only time the Union pretended to care was during negations. They would go around and tell every one how evil management was. Once a new contract was approved, they disappeared until next time. Don’t even bother trying to go to them to resolve dispute. Unless it is something were they can make an example of a non-union manager, they won’t care.
