In Alaska I would swear the State Troopers will go door to door GIVING away guns, really I would swear in Alaska it would be a mandated law REQUIRING everyone to be armed, if you resist you will lose your drivers license, have your wages garnished and your pets impounded.
Am I being a shade too looney?
Not when you figure that only 750,000 people live in the whole state, and what if China managed to sneak a supertanker full of hidden troops here? Its been talked about a lot, and we have the State Militia that legally can require everyone over 17 to comply or to aid in the defense of Alaska.
We don’t give a rats ass about gun laws trying to be enacted here.
Sadly, we have been too civilized about all this in the first place, which is why it has gone this far.
100 years ago, some thrashings would have been adminstered, and this nonsense stopped in its tracks. Since then, the family bonds which were almost clanlike have been eroded, and few alone will have the fortitude to so much as threaten even the mildest reprisal. Somewhere in between, whether if be 'for the war effort', or for 'getting America back on its feet', or whatever excuse, we have permitted the destruction of our rights without serious reaction against those who have been quick to utilize the shiny new tools of totalitarianism. They feel none of the pain they inflict, and thus have no deterrent to their actions.
Now the State's minions, without warrant, can dig through your stuff, take your property, sieze your children and indefinitely hold them hostage to the whims of its officers, even decide how you will spend your resources, and declare what you can and cannot do with your own real estate (which you pay annual rent on, or it will be confiscated and you evicted).
Somewhere in there, some butts should have been kicked, people shunned, the tar heated up and the feathers applied, and fence rails utilized...
We're too damned 'civilized' for own good.
We have endured too much for too long, and when the gloves come off, when that cultural popoff valve trips, I think things could get very ugly, indeed.
If and when there is a next American Revolution, it will likely not be like the first one, but will more resemble the Terror.
