Oakland County officials may be visiting your home early this week in an effort to ensure residents are better prepared in the event of a disaster.

The Oakland County Health Division is teaming up with the Michigan Deapartment of Community Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in conducting Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response surveys.

Visits to select residents will take place, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 3 and 8 p.m. Surveyors will wear fluorescent yellow vests and ID badges.

The health department hopes to better understand how residents have prepared for emergencies and possibly provide them with tools for emergency planning.

The surveys are typically taken after a disaster, but is being implemented as part of National Emergency Preparedness Month.

"The (surveys are) a tool we can use in the event of an emergency to rapidly assess and address community needs," said Kathy Forzley, manager of the Oakland County Health Division.

The health department said the targeted neighborhoods were selected using data from the Census report.

This is nothing more than your local government's "deep sense of community" at work. My response would be to say, "Thank you too much.".

I remember an old story about a census, it began with great treachery and ended with the salvation of the world. If it were simply data, why is it illegal to chose not to particpate?

My response would be: “I have the phone number for 9-1-1 written down, and I have enough food for two days. What more could I possibly need? Weapons? No, those are bad. Stored supplies? Isn’t that what the store is for? Obama has enough in his stash for all of us. If something goes wrong, I’ll just wait for him to do his job.”
