Obama edges Romney in August fundraising
Hotair ^ | 09/10/2012 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 09/10/2012 8:02:05 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Barack Obama's fundraising bounced back in a big way last month. After three straight months of getting bested by the Mitt Romney/RNC fundraising juggernaut, Team Obama and the DNC managed to score a narrow victory in August. Moments after Team Romney announced that they had raised $111.6 million — their best month yet — Team Obama announced they had raised $114 million:

President Barack Obama and Democrats raised more than $114 million for his campaign in August, a campaign official says.

The total far exceeds Obama’s earlier monthly fundraising totals. He trailed Mitt Romney and Republicans in fundraising in July for the third straight month.

As Politico’s James Hohmann points out in his Morning Score e-mail, that still leaves out a key indicator, emphasis mine:

President Obama raised $114 million last month, and Mitt Romney took in $111.6 million. Romney’s campaign, including the RNC and state parties it raises money through, have about $168.5 million cash on hand. The Obama camp has not announced how much they have. Boston announced their numbers at midnight, and Chicago responded with theirs at 12:22. Chicago is highlighting that they had 1.1 million donors last month, including 317 thousand new ones. The Romney camp is highlighting that 94 percent (or 822,223) of their donations were for $250 or less, accounting for $34.6 million of his haul. Chicago says 98 percent of Obama’s donations were for $250 or less, and that the average gift was $58.

During the summer, the burn rate for Team Obama has exceeded 100%; they have spent more money than they have raised. Romney, on the other hand, has continually added to his cash on hand. For the first time this year, that was also true of Team Romney in August, as they spent $17 million more than they raised. The fundraising for Team Obama got very aggressive in August, filled with wheedling, cajoling, and dire predictions of catastrophe. To some extent, that seems to have worked despite getting some bad press over it.

Even so, at least at the moment it appears that Romney will continue to enjoy a cash-on-hand lead at the official start of the general-election fight, even if Obama managed to achieve parity for a month on the top-line figure.

Re-implementing the 2008 untraceable shady money strategy.

Given the timing of “the chair” released his numbers approximately 20 minutes after Mitt sounds very suspicious.

Plus the DNC convention had a deficit of $15 million. How can their convention be short when they are allegedly swimming in money?

It’s not adding up, folks!

At this point, it look slike its pretty much over for Romney.

He was good at blwoing conservatives out of the water then crapped out in the general election two months before November.

Great.

The GOP has now become the Grand Obsolete Party and its time for a new thrid party to arise and purge the Roves, etc from public life.

I still intend to support Romney though.

Well, strike up the freaking band! For months the Obama gang has been whining about Romney out raising him on campaign money, now in a “bump” Obama bests him by around three million, and the crowd goes wild...the MSM crowd, that is.

Laying one brick does not a bricklayer make; this snapshot in time means nothing substantial...moosechelle spends that taking a vacation.

This is the same PHONY, LYING crap as when corrupt RAT voting precincts release their numbers right after the real vote totals have come in. “What number do we need???”

Unless a large group of people form a “3rd” party between now and 2013 it probably aint gonna happen.
The only exception would be Romney is a absolute disaster.
Even then I rather doubt it.
I mean look at this election cycle...it felt like we need someone on par with Reagan and the heart of Palin and what do we get...Willard.

So, they bested Romney by almost 3 million for one month. That should help... uh, pay for the five million in immediate obligations they owe from their convention...:

The conservatives lost because there were too many conservative candidates in the field, all of whom had insufficient organization, weak finances, or moral issues, real (Gingrich) or imagined (Cain). (I personally suspect the rumor campaign against Cain was a Democrat dirty trick, as a Cain Presidential nomination threatened Obama's lock on the black vote. Cain is a real African-American; Obama is a mixed race man whose black father was a foreigner.) Additionally, Bachmann and Santorum, both of whom homeschooled their children, had made several statements to Christian conservatives that would be considered scary to those who are not.

That leaves us Paul and Romney. Paul had good organization and decent finances, but he is a libertarian and not a conservative. The GOP base is not libertarian, especially in the Southern stronghold. After Huntsman left the race, Romney had the moderate field to himself. His organization was strong and his finances were top drawer. He followed the same strategy that worked for McCain four years earlier.

Unlike McCain or Dole (or for that matter Kerry), Romney has a really strong ambition to become President and lacks a day job to return to if he is defeated. If Romney can keep pace with the Obama money machine, as he has done so far, and spends it effectively, he can win.

I'm glad you said that. Now I don't have to stand in line to vote or waste my money and time supporting candidates. The media has said Obama is ahead and is raising more money, so I know it's true.

Whew! I feel more relaxed already.

I kept hearing "Obama edges Romney in August fundraising" on the radio this morning but nowhere did I hear the all important "...by 2%." (That's assuming Obama collects the entire $114 million, that no checks bounce, and that his campaign didn't have their thumb on the scale.)

The media here is so far up Obama's butt that they can taste the $300 White House wine before he does. It's truly disgusting.
