Police say Texas teen killed to keep her quiet

CARROLLTON, Texas (AP) — A Texas man killed a 16-year-old girl who accused him of rape to prevent her from testifying against him, police said Monday. But the man insisted in a jailhouse interview he only wanted to talk to the teen and prove his innocence.

Franklin B. Davis, 30, of the Dallas suburb of Irving, was charged with capital murder Sunday in the death of Shania Gray. Gray was last seen alive Thursday afternoon at Hebron High School in nearby Carrollton. Her body was found Saturday in a secluded area near the Trinity River.

Carrollton police say Davis confessed to arranging a meeting with Gray under false pretenses, driving her to a trail near the river and shooting her twice with a .38-caliber pistol. According to an arrest affidavit, Gray fell into the river and called Davis by his nickname: "Why, Wish?"

Davis told police he then stepped on her neck until she stopped breathing, the affidavit said.

Carrollton police spokesman Jon Stovall said in an email that police believe Davis killed Gray because she was about to testify against him.

That child’s family should be given some time alone with that waste of human flesh. I’d start with a section of pipe the
same diameter of that punk circle around his rabid mouth. Miserable garbage.

That poor, sweet baby girl. Heaven got another angel.

OTOH, I hope prison justice gets him before the needle.

My town, Irving, should not be considered a suburb of Dallas, we should be considered a suburb of DFW Airport which has zoning power over us.

Gee, why don’t you just come right out and say you hate black people? I’m pretty sure her family and friends care.

what I meant was that the media wouldn’t care. They only care if the perp was white.

I know an innocent girl was brutalized then murdered. You don’t have to know someone to show empathy. It is a nice human trait to possess.

“So you knew her then?”

What does that mean? If you are saying that C of J can’t feel a human loss of a young girl who died a horrible death then you need to clarify your statement. For what it is worth, this young teen was shot twice, her neck stepped on until she died and then dumped in the woods so her body could rot.

I read it as:

Why would you automatically assume that this girl is going to heaven?

B/c she was murdered? Last I checked in my Bible, that's not a ticket to Heaven.

B/c she was a child? You might - MIGHT - have a point there... but her entrance to Heaven is for God to decide, not us.

Empathy & salvation are two very different things... not even in the same ballpark.

It is quite possible that the girl was not an upstanding member of society & in fact could have been a blight upon the land. Unless you know her, why would you assume that she is going to heaven?

(Just my two cents...)

I read it as:

A young girl with her life in front of her is (possibly) raped. She has come forth to the legal authorities to seek justice. The perp (who may be a really nice guy, right?) tricks her into meeting her, shoots her twice, steps on her neck till she takes her last breath and is then dumped in the woods. “It is quite possible that the girl was not an upstanding member of society”. I guess she’ll never have a chance to be one, will she? However, I would like to know what she could have possibly done in her sixteen years of life to “deserve” this type of treatment.

I don’t know if she went to heaven. However, I have immense sympathy for her family. IMHO, to feel no sympathy for someone based on the lack of knowledge of their character is sad.
