Obama Campaign Outstrips Mitt Romney In August Fundraising

Obama Campaign Outstrips Mitt Romney In August Fundraising Advisers say president's total of $114m came from grassroots donations, not from 'limitless checks' they say Romney enjoys

10 September 2012

President Barack Obama broke Mitt Romney's dominance of fundraising last month after sending out a series of increasingly desperate and frenetic appeals for cash.

Obama raised more than $114m compared with Romney's $111m, figures released on Monday showed. It comes after three straight months in which the president has been beaten by his White House rival in terms of campaign donations.

Obama's $114m in August represented a big jump from the $75m he raised in July, and came after a series of emails, television appeals and other pleas for help.

Jim Messina, Obama's campaign manager, attributed the rise to small donations. The Democrats like to portray their fundraising as being reliant on a large grassroots movement, rather than the wealthy donors they claim Romney relies on.

More than 1.1 million made contributions averaging $58, the campaign said. More than 317,000 had never contributed to a campaign before, it added.

The Obama camp said that since the re-election campaign began, more than 3.1 million Americans have donated money to their cause, more than in 2008. Ninety-eight percent of donations were $250 or less.

Obama's surprise fundraising success was announced earlier Monday in a tweet from his campaign team less than 30 minutes after the Romney campaign published its results.

Do you realize that that is just Team Obama’s best estimate and that the official FEC numbers don’t come out for another 10 days? They’ll pull that trick they do with the unemployment insurance numbers and “revise” it downwards, but by then the meme is already out there for a week-and-a-half.

The cronies and criminals at Wall St. have donated more money to Obama than to any other candidate in history.

The govn. pays for the convention center for both. They don’t pay for anything held outside the center.

I heard this discussed during the Democrat convention but it wasn’t said by a Democrat official. And there was a discussion of whether or not the federal govn. should continue paying for this.

“Do you realize that that is just Team Obama’s best estimate and that the official FEC numbers don’t come out for another 10 days?”

Then Romney’s amount is also his best estimate?

That means no one knows how much money either one got.

First reports I saw on Romney were 117 million, so his might have been revised before reported - as it should be done. When you look at the cash on hand after the ad buys, Romney is way out front. OZero locked himself into none of the fundraising before the convention can be used after, from what I understand.

Remembering 2008 very well. There was massive “debit card” small donations that were just under the radar of NEC. debit card fundings were traced to some extent to soros and “other foreign sources”. Why would they not repeat the same thing?

Dick Morris was just on Hannity and explained how polls, even good ones, overlook this wide indie margin.

I predict Obama will NOT pay any DNC bills from the convention and those owed the money will get the shaft. history backs this up.

$114 million to $111 million is hardly “outstriping”......Romney has much more cash on hand than 0bama. 0bama shot his wad in July and August to build a tie in the polls.

"Obama's surprise fundraising success was announced earlier Monday in a tweet from his campaign team less than 30 minutes after the Romney campaign published its results."

"I've got a bracelet, too."

Is this reporting a requirement? Can the numbers even be trusted?
