General Motors sold a record number of Chevrolet Volt sedans in August — but that probably isn't a good thing for the automaker's bottom line.
Nearly two years after the introduction of the path-breaking plug-in hybrid, GM is still losing as much as $49,000 on each Volt it builds, according to estimates provided to Reuters by industry analysts and manufacturing experts.

Notice that Mr. Obama doesn’t have a Chevy Volt type limousine that he rides around in? His automobile starts out as a truck and is modified to look like a Cadillac, with more armor than most light tanks and a pressurized interior, run-flat tires, world-class communications gear and much more. I’d be surprised if it gets 5 mpg. And he mocks Gov. Romney having a car elevator. Well, Mitt paid for that gizmo out of his own pocket, Mr. Obama gets everything paid for by us.

I know of no person, not currently institutionalized in a mental facility, that ever thought that Government Motors would make a profit on the Volt. I don’t think even Government Motors thought they could make a profit, it was produced only to satisfy the demands of the “anointed ones”.

. The “Volt,” is a government product, with no economic goal in mind. It is as if a company were to dream up a “concept” car and then rush it into mass production. It is no damn good. Probably take years to work out the kinks.
How about we all go lease a Volt, right now and bankrupt that company for good. heh

The Pentagon is buying Chevrolet Volts to help “green up” the military—while propping up sales of the bailed-out automaker’s most politicized car.
The Department of Defense began purchasing the struggling luxury electric car, which retails at $40,000, this summer as part of its goal to purchase 1,500 such green vehicles. The Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif. purchased its first two Volts in July, and 18 more vehicles will come shortly to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where Air Force One is based, according to military magazine Stars and Stripes.
Um, because Ford, Nisan, and CODA all make electic vehicles that have twice as much range and cost less money?
The GM bailout was all about saving out UAW and CAW so they could order their members to re-elect Obama and then get back to the buisness of destroying GM with unrealist pension and benefits demands.
The unfortunate fact is that people ARE working to kill the president and his family every day. He deserves every bit of protection he gets. If the left had bitched about the gas mileage of the presidential limo when Bush was in office, you might have a point. But they didn’t, so you don’t.

I don’t know if the 39 billion figure include their debt—not just to the government but pension obligations owed to their retirees. I believe Apple is worth more than GM.
Generous Motors is basically a pension fund that turns out some cars that don’t sell very well.
Why should they worry—like the rest of us, excepting California—about failing if they know the rest of us will step in and bail them out ... again?

If Chevy could bring back the 1984/85 and 79/80/81 Camaro back,they would MAKE A PROFIT! Instead they wasted Billions on the Volt! Everything we do presently, whether it be welfare, food stamps, billion dollar bombers, 3 meals a day for “poor” kids in schools, six figure salaries for almost all bureaucrats above the entry-level, etc. are unsustainable. That includes the current level of ostentatious living for the president, vice president, cabinet, supreme court justices and congress. If you had an inkling of how they live you’d probably agree with me. We cannot go on like this. We can safeguard them without anywhere near our present spending. For instance, why does Michelle Obama need a high-paid staff of almost 30 people? Throughout history, most first ladies had NONE at all. Jackie Kennedy paid her social secretary out of her own pocket, IIRC. Mr. Lincoln ran the entire Civil War with two clerks, also paid for by him. Did Nancy Pelosi need better transport than President Reagan had?
But at least the planet is being saved.
