"The two remaining stumbling blocks involve re-hiring laid off teachers from schools that get shut down or shaken up and a new teacher evaluation process that the union says puts far too much weight on student test scores."

We will watch these issues with great interest. I suspect that it will go in favor of the unions because they want more control, higher pay, and less accountability. Student test scores? What has that got to do with teaching?

Has anybody seen these standardized tests that the teachers complain about so much? I have. They were created many many years after I graduated from high school, therefore I was never “taught to the test”. Yet 25 years after high school, my opinion is that any 7th grader should be able to ace them. These tests are ridiculously easy.
