Don't forget Poland was invaded from the east by the Soviets 16 days after the Germans invaded from the west.

Actually the best case scenario would have been for Hitler to take Moscow and put Stalin at risk of being overthrown by the likes of Khrushchev, who certainly while not a saint, would have been much better than Stalin.
