I really think Obama feels Israel doesn’t mean anything to his supporters or the so called independents and he is probably right
The lost Jewish vote is a non issue
Most Jews live in certain areas and since enough will remain with him where it counts he probably doesn’t care about lost votes that won’t be enough to lose in the states that are locks
I think you are mistaken.
If they believed Israel is irrelevant to their supporters they would not have first sent Sen. Durbin out to try and bluster his way through the omission of the Jerusalem language from the Democratic Party platform, they would not have changed it, and they wouldn’t have let Debbie Wasserman Schultz go on and on claiming that President Obama insisted that it be put back in and that its omission was a technical oversight.
The fact is that some of the states that have reasonably-large Jewish populations are swing states, including Florida, Ohio and perhaps even Pennsylvania. I saw a poll today that showed Jewish support for Obama down to 59% — still high, but nothing like it used to be.
Moreover, many of the financial backers of the Democrats are Jewish, and if they are not longer able to convince themselves that Obama is a friend of Israel they will not support him financially.
I think that this year the votes of Jews can play a significant role, and that Obama’s strategists believe that Israel sits in a warm place in the Jewish consciousness, notwithstanding its pariah status among progressives and academics (but I repeat myself).
Given the time and circumstances, it is imperative that Obama meet with Bibi, if only for the optics. Iran continues its threats and is actually increased its militant rhetoric over the past few weeks. What is Obama thinking?
