Laredo has landed itself on several lists over the past few years.

Now it's grabbing national attention in an article by the Huffington Post.

Our Lauren Kendrick has more in our top story tonight at six.

"No I don't take it as negative." Mayor of Laredo, Raul Salinas says he's not surprised to hear that Laredo is ranked the least diverse city in the United States. But he's not worried about it.

"In Laredo, it's a unique border city...a great city. The minority is actually the majority."

The article in the Huffington Post states there is 95.7% Hispanics in laredo. That's something Mayor Raul Salinas says has to do with the fact that we're a border town.

"Not too far from now the Latinos are going to be the number one minority group in the whole state of Texas." Someone we spoke to represents the 3.3% of Caucasians in Laredo. He says there are four generations of his family here.

"We had many opportunities to go other places, but we decided to stay. This is a very warm and welcoming community regardless of your ethnic background."

Ed Sherwood says he brought the first general motors factory to the gateway city back in 1981. He says he doesn't feel Laredo being named the least diverse city in the US will affect new businesses from moving here.

"Laredo is open to business. It's open to maquiladora. It's open to logistics companies, manufacturing companies."

He says that those who do decide to start a business in Laredo will most likely end of staying because of the people.

I have been to Laredo a couple of times. It is a total crap hole, much more like Mexico than the United States. It is appalling that a city in the United States can look like that, and a sign of things to come for the rest of Texas.
