One of my most vivid memories was the thread describing the failed Space Shuttle landing, where freepers commented that they could see something was wrong watching the shuttle in the sky over the west coast, minutes before it reentered the atmosphere over Texas. It was incredible to read...not unlike re-reading the 9/11 threads.
This is a remarkable place, filled with many brilliant and knowledgeable people.
I remember that Saturday morning. I saw it on FR at 9am and it took over 30 minutes for MSM to say a word on TV. FreeRepublic is amazing with the amount of major stories where someone here has personal knowledge or is watching the smoke from their window.
