Sanctuary State: Library Cards May Soon Be Used as Illegal Alien ID Cards in Los Angeles

Stand with Arizona

Illegal aliens in California's largest city could soon use library cards to open bank accounts and access an array of "city services" under a plan being considered by city officials.

Under the plan, anyone with "proof" of Los Angeles residency could get a library card. "The idea is to provide a form of ID to those who cannot get a driver's license because of their immigration status."

The City Council unanimously voted recently to consider the proposal, which would have Los Angeles join cities like San Francisco, Oakland, and New Haven, CT to offer various forms of identification to illegal immigrants and others who cannot get driver's licenses because of their immigration status.

Los Angeles Councilman Richard Alarcon, who proposed the concept, seems to be more concerned with consumer protections for foreign nationals illegally in the U.S., instead of legal American citizens out of work because of these illegal aliens. Alarcon said illegals who don't use banks end up being "abused" by 'payday loan' stores and robbed if they keep "large sums of cash on hand" (gee, now who does that?). "They can be scammed and taken advantage of," Alarcon said. "This will help end that."

Of course the "scam" on Los Angeles taxpayers - who pay more than $1 billion a year to support illegal aliens - does not seem to concern the L.A. City Council.

The Council claims that cards would "not be a substitute for driver's licenses" and "would not provide protection from deportation by federal immigration authorities" (perhaps they haven't been paying attention to Obama's latest amnesty maneuvers).

The cards would include a user's name, address and photograph, and would be issued through the city's libraries. They would cost applicants a mere $15 to $20, with a monthly fee of up to $2.99. There is no apparent security guidelines for how to avoid the document and identity fraud that has been abused in other cities that have adopted this card.

Ira Mehlman, communications director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), said ID cards can easily be exploited by terrorists and criminals and encourage illegal immigration.

"Cities should not be in the business of making it easier for people to violate federal law, even if they don't pose a security risk," he said.

Mehlman's concerns are backed up by outrageous abuses of such cards in San Fransisco and New Haven. In S.F., buses, trains and some airports accept the city's ID cards for illegal aliens - a major security risk. In S.F., Oakland and elsewhere, illegals can bypass Federal security rules on opening bank accounts, by using the city ID - an inviting way for drug smugglers and terror cells to hide financial activities using fake identification. And in New Haven, CT, the city's mayor last year proposed allowing illegal aliens to vote using the ID cards.

This proposal is just one of many recent pro-illegal alien developments in California. A few weeks ago, the legislature passed a bill to allow illegals who qualify under Obama's "deferred action" amnesty program to be given driver's licenses. The bill now waits Gov. Jerry Brown's signature.

There's no place like California if you are an illegal foreign invader. It's the Sanctuary State.

If YOU stand against illegal immigration and want to see the border secured, the rule of law upheld and amnesty for illegals stopped, then put your name where your heart is, and join the 160,000 who have signed our petition...

Note that the word “proof” above is in quotes. Which means that they are taking a big smelly dump on the notion of what someone’s legal identity means in a lawful society. A poke in the eye to anyone who understands the value of law throughout history. Then they wipe their soiled behinds with the constitution. We’re dealing with criminals, not the aliens themselves so much, but their enablers toiling in broad daylight to circumvent immigration law. I hope a list is being kept.
