In Chicago, Rahm Emanuel is in a showdown against teachers

CHICAGO Rahm Emanuel is not big on ambiguity. He was thrilled, a few days before he took office last year, when the Illinois House voted 112 to 1 for a school improvement package that, among other things, made it harder for teachers unions to call strikes.
A historic day of opportunity for kids in the city of Chicago, he said after the vote. Rank-and-file teachers were less pleased, particularly when an Emanuel ally boasted, The unions cannot strike in Chicago.
**SNIP**
If the strike persists, its tone and outcome could ripple well beyond Chicago, given Emanuels close association with President Obama. Union support is important to the Obama campaign, which has been careful not to weigh in, even as Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney swiftly spoke out against the Chicago teachers.

I still think the whole strike is a set up to make 0bama look good. He will ride the white horse in to save the day for “the children”.
“Never let a crisis go to waste.”
He has his chief of staff as Mayor and 350,000 kids on the street not in school because his largest base of support, the Teachers Union refused a 15%+ wage increase because they didn't want to get evaluations that could cause some ineffective teachers to be let go. He will what, Offer the 35% wage increase and NO accountability for the job well done? Rahm offered to increase the wages of the highest paid teachers IN THE COUNTRY from $76K to 88K in three years PLUS and they said NO! With 11% unemployment in their state and a school system in bankruptcy. Good Luck!
I saw a sad story on the news tonight. Apparently, the football coaches had requested that they be allowed to practice and play games on schedule even while the strike was going on.
They were refused. The news report dealt with the fact that many of the players were concerned because in their Senior year they are relying on being able to show their skills in hopes of getting a scholarship to college.
They talked to one kid who said “I just want to get chosen and get as far away from Chicago as I possibly can.”
Large sums of money will change hands and all of this will be over. This is the Chicago way.
I like your idea, but I would say they are already too late. The teachers who broke the law by striking would be terminated immediately. Then I would have their health insurance bills sent directly to them. Then I would laugh.
“Then I would have their health insurance bills sent directly to them. Then I would laugh.”
You have my vote!
Notice how the mid-east riots and murders drove news of the Chicago strike, the bad economy and no jobs growth right off the front pages and off the 6 oclock news.
How convenient for Obama.
Allah is truly watching out for him.
Fire them, Rahm, just fire them all.
You can re-hire anyone that you want to.
I’ll send you a basket of fruit if you fire these horrid people.
Rahm said, “The unions cannot strike in Chicago.”
What I would have loved for him to say is, “The unions cannot strike against the public,” instead of “not in my town, not right now anyway.”
Great post, but tell me, would it be an evil demonic kind of laugh?
Can’t tell you how much I am enjoying this!
