NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The Federal Reserve announced plans to unleash more stimulus Thursday, in its third attempt at a controversial program to rev up the U.S. economy.
The policy, known as quantitative easing and often abbreviated as QE3, entails buying $40 billion in mortgage-backed securities each month. The end date remains up in the air, as the Fed will re-evaluate the strength of the economy in coming months.
The Fed is wasting no time. The purchases begin Friday and are expected to total about $23 billion over the remainder of September.

Stimulus?? The only way they could produce stimulus is by passing out big bags full of viagra to the male members of congress...and that might not even work. So many of them are brain dead, it makes you wonder what else is dead, too.
Yeah, those MBS's were a great investment back in 2007...
and Fannie and Freddie already sopped up most of junk on the balance sheets for the "too big to fail" banks.
These people are destroying America and our economy, making it impossible to invest or hire new employees....
Since they keep doing it to make things worse and worse, there’s no avoiding the conclusion that it is a deliberate plan.
Either get out and campaign really hard and vote and get all your friends to vote this November, or dig your bunker and try to hide as long as you can when the final melt-down comes. (And it could come any day, given the government’s current policies....)
QE3 will add some octane boost to your portfolio all the while robbing your dollar of spending power. It really doesnt help the little guy or the pension investor at all. Ill try to fake excitement watching my gains go up...whee doggies
$40 billion a month is $480b a year!!
The economy is $15,090 billion a year. This is 3.2% of GDP!
Without QE, the official numbers would show recession.
WE ARE IN A RECESSION, FOLKS!
Romney/Ryan, is your staff reading this? Please get the word out to the sheeple during the debates.
Years ago I saw a movie with Wallace Beery playing Poncho Villa. When told they were out of money his reply was “We’ll print some more.”
