The President of the United States Can't Say If Egypt is an Ally or an Enemy?

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: I can't believe this. Obama actually said on Telemundo that Egypt isn't an ally or an enemy. They were an ally! When did they stop being an ally? Egypt and Saudi Arabia, of the Arab countries, were our allies. We give Egypt $1.5 billion a year. This is unbelievable! I brought it here. Let's play it. This is Obama on Telemundo, Noticiero Telemundo. The anchor is Jose Diaz-Balart. He said, "Would you consider the current Egyptian regime an ally of the United States?"

OBAMA: I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy. They are a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that, uh, we are gonna have to see how they respond to this incident. Uh, how they respond to, for example, maintaining the peace treaty with Israel.

RUSH: What is he talking about?

OBAMA: So far, at least, what we've seen is in some cases they've said the right things and taken the right steps. In others, how they've responded to various events may not be aligned with our interests.

RUSH: Uhhhh, I really don't know where to go with this. How they respond to this incident? Maintain the peace treaty with Israel? They've already torn it up, the Muslim Brotherhood has, one of the agreements made at Camp David with Sadat and Carter! The Muslim Brotherhood...

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: At the beginning of the program, or very near, I played a sound bite of Obama saying that Egypt was not an ally or an enemy, and I couldn't believe it.

I was incredulous.

To say that Egypt is not an ally?

For crying out loud!

Prior to the Muslim Brotherhood business, Egypt had always been an ally. We give 'em $1.5 billion a year. Egypt and Saudi Arabia, of the Arab countries in the Middle East, those are the two strong allies we've always had. The Camp David accords were with Israel. So Obama has "clarified" now. "President Barack Obama didn't intend to signal any change in the US-Egypt relationship last night when he said Egypt is not an 'ally,' the White House told The Cable today."

I don't know what The Cable is. It's a website. Josh Rogin is the reporter. "In an interview with Telemundo Wednesday night, Obama said that the US relationship with the new Egyptian government was a 'work in progress,' ... 'I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy,' Obama said. ... That comment had Egypt watchers scratching their heads, especially since technically, Egypt was designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally in 1989 when Congress first passed the law creating that status ...

"White House spokesman Tommy Vietor told The Cable Thursday that the administration is not signaling a change in that status. 'I think folks are reading way too much into this,' Vietor said. '"Ally" is a legal term of art.'" So they didn't mean anything by it. They don't know what they're doing, folks. Obama shot first and aimed later. He shot first and aimed later. This guy doesn't know what he's doing.

This is a guy speaking up when he has no idea what he's saying. Some of you may like Barack Obama. I don't know. Some of you may feel sorry for him. I'm telling you: I don't care what you think of him, he's not qualified for this. He just not qualified for this. And in addition to not being qualified, this guy is dangerous. the assumptions and presumptions that he makes about things are so infantile and absent any sense of reality.

You couple that with his belief that the United States can be found to be at fault in most anything, or at least partially to blame for most anything -- and his willingness to say it to the bad guys in the world who hate us -- and it is not helpful. (sigh) Let's see. Oh, grab sound bite 28. This is another one. Michelle Malkin last night on Hannity went on a great rant. She could not believe this. Here's this guy with the big heart, big compassion. He cares more than anybody and has empathy.

And he sounded wooden and unconcerned and unaffected by the deaths in Benghazi. He sounded perfunctory about it, and a lot of people picked up on that. So it's damage control time on that. So this afternoon in Golden, Colorado, at (where else?) a campaign event... A campaign event! He is campaigning while all this is going on. He is fundraising and he's campaigning, and Mitt Romney is accused of politicizing this. Mitt Romney is said to be unqualified and jumping the gun.

Here's Obama trying to walk back this idea that he doesn't care...

OBAMA: What I want all of you to know is that we are gonna bring those who killed our fellow Americans to justice.

FOLLOWERS: (cheer)

OBAMA: I want people around the world to hear me: To all those who would do us harm, no act of terror will go unpunished.

RUSH: As they quiver in fear around the world. Is he gonna let the Marines put live ammo in their guns now? What does this mean? See, this is supposed to really scare these people. They're supposed to be quaking in their boots now. Ha! This is dangerous.

And the media plays him up as being better at foreign policy than Romney. He is the biggest foreign policy disaster since Neville Chamberlain. My cat would make a better diplomat.

Obama shows the world how a professional gaff-maker dances around an issue.

0bama’s remarks are confusing enough in English. I bet the remarks translated into Spanish will be even more donfusing, assuming that the the translation is honest and not an opinionated paraphrase. Telemundo is an alternate universe.

Better to ask Obama, "What is Egypt?"

America recognizes Egypt. Obama recognizes the Muslim Brotherhood.

OBAMA: I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy.

Yet we give them $1.5 billion/year.

Hey, Obozo, I'll sign a document saying that I'm YOUR ally for $1.5 billion...heck, I'll do it for a measly $150 million. Just have Ben wave his magic wand, and you'll have another ally! I'll even be glad to pay taxes on it at the pre-Bush rate. Pretty please!!!

Actually, I want to barf...but I've felt that way for most of the last 4 years.

At this point, would we consider Egypt an ally? Probably not. He's getting in trouble for speaking honestly, which you can't do when it comes to diplomatic relations.

Compare this to Ford's debate "Gaffe" about Poland not being under Soviet domination. Events showed that he was right, but he shouldn't have tipped our hand.
