Ted Jr. may follow in dad’s footsteps
Boston Herald ^ | 9/14/12 | Joe Battenfeld

With one Kennedy already on the ballot this fall, don’t be surprised to see another member of the political clan soon make a bid to join the family business.

Edward M. Kennedy Jr., the eldest son of the late Massachusetts senator, is consulting with a veteran Washington political hand in a clear sign he’s seriously considering a run for office, the Herald has learned.

The 50-year-old Kennedy brought in longtime Democratic strategist Steve McMahon to help him coordinate media interviews at the party convention in Charlotte, and several sources say McMahon also is helping Kennedy with political advice.

Kennedy lives in Connecticut with his wife, Kiki, and two teenage children and runs a New York-based health care services business, but he also could look at a political run in Massachusetts, where his family is still viewed warmly by most voters.

“He’s aware his father always wanted him to serve,” said one Democratic source who is close to Kennedy.

Kennedy’s younger brother, former U.S. Rep. Patrick Kennedy, also is urging Ted Jr. to make a run for office, sources said.

In an interview with the Herald at the Democratic convention, Ted Jr. did nothing to douse speculation about his political ambitions, saying, “Hopefully one day I’ll have the honor to serve.”

But Kennedy’s decision to use McMahon as an unpaid adviser has raised even more eyebrows among Massachusetts Democrats. McMahon, a former aide to the late senator, told the Herald he did help out Ted Jr. during the convention but would not comment about whether they’ve discussed a political run.

The big question is whether Kennedy will stay in Connecticut or move to Massachusetts, where there is a wide-open governor’s race in 2014 and a possible U.S. Senate seat opening if President Obama wins re-election and names Democratic incumbent John Kerry as his secretary of state.

Even though the family’s political clout has waned since the elder Kennedy’s death, state Democrats have enthusiastically embraced Joseph P. Kennedy III, son of former U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy II, who is making a bid for Congress. Kennedy easily won his primary and faces Republican Sean Bielat in November.

But sources said Ted Kennedy Jr. has “no plans” to leave Connecticut and move to Massachusetts right now. Kennedy is well known in Democratic circles in Connecticut and has been encouraged to run for office there.

Does Chris Dodd also have a son so they can make another waitress sandwich?

Only if that original waitress also has a daughter.

Ironic they always say “serve” when they actually mean “rule”.

Wretch and puke whenever I hear a Kennedy use the term "serve".
Bunch of degenerate aholes.

While you don’t have to be FAT, it helps makes you more repulsive.
However being directly and personally responsible for the avoidable death of someone or being instrumental in making your spouse an alcoholic and/or her suicide or having seducing your teenage babysitter or murdering a teenager who rebuffed your sexual advances or seducing a virgin teenage intern in the White House or having an affair with MAFIA babe in the White House makes you an ALPHA DOG in eyes of the Massachusetts voter.
Must be a family or cultural thing.

Ted Jr., YOU GO FOR IT, YOU GOT THE BREEDING; Massachusetts has been missing the Kennedy Magic.

People in my home state (MA) are so f’ing stupid, that any Kennedy could get elected, even though their political qualifications begin and end with their last name.

I wish I could up and leave, but I like this state (all politics and resident scum aside).

Swimmer should have served 50 years for felony drunk driving and homicide for Mary Jo.

“Isn’t Ted the one who lost a leg?”

Yes. I have been thinking the same thing about “following in his dad’s footsteps.” You can read into the rest.

“any Kennedy could get elected, even though their political qualifications begin and end with their last name.”

I’m afraid you’re right. JK3 will more than likely win the MA 4th Congressional. Money from Newton and the welfare army from Fall River wins every time.

And the MA GOP? Let’s not even go there.

P.S.

“You can read into the rest.”

What I mean to say is that I don’t want to say anymore. Just use your imagination.

That could lead to only one thing; more dead Kennedys. (Hey, that’s a good name for a punk band...)

It is a beautiful state, particularly the sea coast, with many, wonderful people who live there....like my daughter..
Wish there were more, but then I live in New York so I should keep my stones in my pocket.

Being fat, drunk, stupid, and a vicious liar, murderer, philanderer, and jerk ain't no way to go through life, kid.

But in the Kennedy clan case, most of those descriptions fit and none have yet been horsewhipped or hanged yet as many so richly deserve. Instead, they get prime time tv and adoring Liberal crowds. So go for it, kid!
