The best view of China's new flagship, which inspires fear in its enemies, could recently be had from a window on the fourth floor of an IKEA store in Dalian, a port city in northeastern China. Here, someone had scratched out a viewing hole in the opaque film masking the window, providing a view of the pier across the wayand of the Varyag.
Here in the West Pacific, tensions have been rising for months between China and America's partners. Beijing is in a dispute with Manila over the Scarborough Shoal, an uninhabited rocky atoll, most of which is only above sea level at low tide. This May, Washington quietly negotiated a compromise in which ships from both China and the Philippines would withdraw from the region. Since then, however, the Chinese navy has blocked off the lagoon and its excellent fishing waters and once again sent ships to patrol the area.
At the same time, China is at odds with Japan over another uninhabited island groupknown as Diaoyu in Chinese and Senkaku in Japaneselocated near a key shipping lane between Taiwan and Okinawa. In August, activists from Hong Kong hoisted a Chinese flag on one of the islands, triggering a wave of patriotic enthusiasm on the mainland.

And if you`re the senior leaders of China`s military, the time to act is now. America`s too weak to stop you. But of course, we`ll talk about it a lot.
Have the Muslims ever done China wrong? Just wondering.
Varyag is a steam powered vessel with 4 boilers and 4 steam turbines, 4 screws. She is not a serious problem for a US Carrier Strike Group. China’s land based Aircraft and ballistic anti-ship missile program would be my concern.
What Varyag does represent is the 1st step in China developing a credible Navy Force and a platform for them to gain the experience to build a NIMITZ class Battle group. I expect they are 10 years away from being able to project power as we routinely do.
not those in the halls of Congress or in the WH. Chinese money GOOD, American top secrets worth much to China, just ask Johnny Wong how much Bill Clinton received from China for providing them with US missile technology.
I meant Johnny Chung, sorry
“And in other news, reports are sketchy and unconfirmed of an explosion during the night in the South China Sea near the Dalian home port of the new Chinese carrier Sri Lang(formerly the Russian carrier Varyag). It’s being reported that the ship’s first attempt at night carrier landings has resulted with a J-15 slamming into the rear of the ship. The Pentagon reportedly is monitoring the situation closely.”
I don’t wish ramp strikes on anyone, . . . . unless it happens to our enemy during war, and then I hope it happens often.
We need a REAL commander in chief. Obama will probably give the reds a couple of our ships.
It is really beginning to look like the whole international house of cards is beginning to tumble down. With the Marxists in power here their aim of destroying the USA seems within their grasp and a bonus will be the collapse of world wide civilization along with it.
Take a look at the unrest in Xinjiang (Sinkiang), which is majority Muslim. The Uyghurs (Turkic people) were acting up about three years ago (they’re close to half of the population, with Han Chinese making up about 41 percent).
Then God bless the Chinese, you recognize a problem and are willing to fix it.
China may just save the world because PC does not work there.
Eh? The commies invented PC. The state of the USA today is no small thanks to Red China’s influence.
