Racism And Michelle Obama: In Support Of Self-Censorship (NPR)
npr ^ | September 14, 2012 | Edward Schumacher-Matos

Following Gov. Mitt Romney recently to an American Legion convention in Indianapolis, correspondent Ari Shapiro worked the audience with his recorder as he waited for Romney to speak. It was, he would say in his report, "not an Obama-friendly crowd."

He aired comments from Bobbie Lucie, a veteran's wife, as illustration.

"I just—I don't like him," Lucie said of the president. "Can't stand to look at him. I don't like his wife. She's far from the first lady. It's about time we get a first lady in there that acts like a first lady and looks like a first lady."

Alarm bells went off in NPR's listening audience. Many wrote to complain that Lucie's interview should not have been aired, but for different reasons, each of them compelling.

"I find this quote highly offensive, likely racist and clearly outside the range of acceptable dialogue and exchange regarding politics and the upcoming election," wrote Jonathan Hertz from Allentown, Pa., representative of one group of listeners.

Val Larsen of Bridgewater, Va., and others said that the comment went beyond offense to African Americans and the first couple to offend veterans.

"By using just that one quote to characterize the views of the conference attendees, you implied that these racist views are typical of veterans," he wrote. "To slander them by implying racist views and political motives is a gross breach of our social contract with soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines."

To the left, commenting on the fact that Barack and Michelle don't look presidential is now racist.

A silent dog whistle that only liberals can hear allows them to decode normal, every day words and adjudicate them as racist.

The Ombudsman buys this goofy argument without challenge. The theory is mostly found on Salon, Huffington, DU and of course in the NPR audience...then uses it via innuendo to legitimize the wackadoo theory.

Leftist Ari Shapiro edits the story for the incindiary soundbite and all he gets is:

“It’s about time we get a first lady in there that acts like a first lady and looks like a first lady.”

The woman never mentions skin color or race. Just actions and appearance. Michelle is a sloppy dresser and a Cook County clod. What’s racist about reality?

“I find this quote highly offensive, likely racist and clearly outside the range of acceptable dialogue,” blah blah blah

Sounds like a perpetually offended muslim.
Not everyone agrees with you. Deal with it.

There is nothing racist about her comment.

What did they think about Harry Reid calling President Bush A Loser? I can not stand to look at either of the Obamas and personally a president who goes on a radio show where the mans name is “DJ Pimp the Limp” come on that is pretty low and not presidential in the least.

Does anyone remember the multimillion dollar vacations taken by the First Lady during either of the Bush presidencies?

Here, read this. Captures the whole thing in a nutshell: comparing Moochelle O. to Jackie O.

(Yeah, let's see the Dems deny Camelot!)

Cheers!

This has gotten so far out of hand that if the person would have said “This is the most Presidential looking couple in the history of the Republic” ‘they’ would think there is a hidden message and would deem it racist.

I would just call it a bold faced lie, but that is me - and for the sake of brevity in the future, I have publicly declared myself a racist so they can no longer effectively accuse me of it.

Well you're wrong on every count and description, and your offendedness is inappropriate and an indication that you have mental problems, Jonathan. I'd have you locked up as a potential danger to yourself and others, and require you to undergo anger management and paranoia therapy. And so that goes for all those who agree with you, too.

There, that was easy. Where's the problem?

It's funny; many people said the same things about Bill (can't stand to see him) & the pant-suited "Cankles" Hillary herself.

Was that racism?

They not only don’t look or act presidential, they are a continuing embarrassment for the US. It’s like having the Beverly Hillbillies in the White House.
