‘Illegal’: GA High School Abandons 50 Years of Prayer After Atheists’ Threats

Yet another public school has halted prayers before football games after receiving a threatening letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), an atheist activist non-profit. Earlier this week, TheBlaze told you about the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and its decision to ban prayers. Now, Haralson County High School in Tallapoosa, Georgia, is also ceasing its broadcast of prayers before football games.

After 50 years of traditional invocations being uttered before Rebels games, the loudspeaker has now been silenced. The situation commenced when the school, back in September 2011, received a letter from FFRF staff council Stephanie A. Schmitt. In it, she told Haralson County Schools Superintendent Brett Stanton that the district was in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

“First and foremost, it is illegal for a public school to organize, sponsor and lead prayers at public high school athletic events,” Schmitt’s letter charged.

Interestingly, the case isn’t necessarily closed. While the district won’t allow prayers to be uttered from the loudspeaker, community members have taken matters into their own hands. Rather than being silent, game attendees and players decided to vocally pray during the designated moment of silence.

Christians need to start standing up to these hoodlums. Next they’ll go after NASCAR. Have they sued muslims yet? If so, I haven’t heard about it.

If you cave in to them, you will see no end to their demands.

Every atheist I’ve ever met is full of self hate. The only way that they can love themselves, or even stand themselves, is by shifting the hate on to God.

Just saw “Last Ounce of Courage”. Shame on the cowards at that school. The movie would be like them looking in a mirror.

Thank God for these people. That’s what I would do, pray at the top of my lungs. I’d like to think I’d do that even if I was a stone-cold atheist. Knowing me, I probably would.

I’m sick of the bully culture.

When can we expect the Christian students at this school to riot and and rape and kill the superintendent and principal who made the decision?

The school is getting its interpretation of the Constitution from a Communist front organization. It’s nothing but an outright lie.

A moment of silence would be more appropriate, as not all Americans are Christians and the First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees religious freedom of all citizens.

Just thought a reminder of these things might be in order.

My experience has been vastly different. The atheists I know are too full of themselves to bow to another god.

I’d pray that all the godless atheists in the crowd would accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord that day.

It’ll either set it, or it’ll really make them unhappy. Either way, I’m okay with it. And I can defend my 1st Amendment rights because I carry my 2nd Amendment rights along with me.

The tyranny of the minority.. The smallest subset of deviancy of normal behavior, willfully, and maliciously, imposes their will on the majority..

This is like fighting a godless forest fire with a Christian water pistol.

If they were truly standing for the Lord they would have **removed** their children from the godless government schools YEARS ago! They would have peacefully and legally totally shut down all funding to these schools of godlessness and socialism. These godless indoctrination centers would, at this moment, be padlocked and permanently shut down.

Rut...Hey! If they had done that they wouldn't have had tax funded and godless government school FOOTBALL! (eye roll!)

It is an abomination for Christians to send children into godless schools where they **must** learn to think and reason godlessly just to cooperate in in the godless classroom!

Look at Obama and the Clintons.

If it weren't for the Second Amendment were would be living in tyranny **today**.

And...Unless Christians grow a pair of gonads, and get their kids out of the government schools, even the Second Amendment will not be enough to save us from tyranny. Eventually, the godless Marxists will win the hearts and minds of the coming generations. They will in the voting booth.

I agree. Both my children have gone to private schools. It meant no new clothes, no new cars, no vacations... at times only the good Lord stood between us and eviction. But their education came first. I’ve been ridiculed many a time for “paying double tuition” meaning paying taxes and tuition. But the Lord has blessed our efforts, my son is a senior in high school, pre-acepted to some colleges, and seeked out by some Ivy League schools... all expenses paid. It is true that you cannot outgive the Lord!
