Howie Carr Show thread for the week, starting with his Sunday Boston Herald column (excerpt: Inside the DNA of a blue-blood voter By Howie Carr
--Who are these people voting for Obama and Granny Warren? Obamas flack, Jay Carney, sounds more like Baghdad Bob every day. As for Warren, one of her new TV spots says she represents people who play by the rules.
Thats a joke, right?
Somebodys voting for them, though. And they share certain behavioral traits. Consider this your guide to the modern Democrat electorate. Not all of these characteristics apply to each one, but every layabout and/or moonbat share at least a few of them.
They ride their bicycles through red lights.
They live in Massachusetts, but their $7 million yacht lives in Rhode Island.
They work, if they work at all, at nonprofits, foundations and/or colleges.
They have an EBT card ... and an iPhone.

Who are these people voting for Obama and Granny Warren? Obamas flack, Jay Carney, sounds more like Baghdad Bob every day. As for Warren, one of her new TV spots says she represents people who play by the rules.

They glare at anybody they see smoking unless its pot theyre smoking.
Their Subarus have bumper stickers that say Hate Is Not a Family Value next to another one that says, Send Bushs Children to Iraq to Die!
The husbands have longer gray hair than their wives.
They wear Birkenstocks with socks.
When it comes to charity, they toss around quarters like they were manhole covers.
They always bring their Whole Foods shopping bags back to the store.
They wear T-shirts that say, Ithaca is Gorge-ous.
The women dont wear makeup.
The only parades they march in have Pride in the title.
They oppose charter schools for the poor but send their own kids to private schools.
They believe you should be able to buy booze with your EBT cards, but not 32-ounce sodas.
They pay no taxes but want the so-called rich to pay their fair share.
They wear bow ties.
They applaud Judge Mark Wolf for ordering the state to pay for transgendered killer Michelle Kosileks sex-change operation.
They have no problem with gasoline prices doubling because we meaning, you need to be driving a lot less.
They believe in affirmative action unless it adversely affects their own children.
They were the last people on their block to let their subscriptions to the Globe lapse.
They want the government out of their bedroom, but into your kitchen.
They have a Coexist bumper sticker on their Volt, but give the finger to any motorist who gets in their way.
They think any of their neighbors who cant afford to vote for a Prop. 2 1⁄2 override should just sell their tacky little houses and move to some low-rent town thats zoned for trailer parks where they can be with their own scratch-ticket-playing kind.
They would never say it out loud, but they really believe theyre better than people who were born and raised in Massachusetts, which is just one reason why Granny Warren is so superior to Scott Brown.
Theyll never, ever peel that old Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker off the Lexus.

The Boston Phoenix, which transitions from weekly newsprint paper to weekly glossy magazine this week, actually did praise Wolf’s decision re: Kosilek and they were saddened that Liz Warren agreed with Brown that we shouldn’t have taxpayer funded sex change operations for murderers. That’s right. The Phoenix is to the left of Lieawatha, if that’s possible. (And thanks to Al Gore’s internet, the paper is a lot thinner due to Craig’s List taking over the previous personal ads that made Mindich rich over the years...)
Like I said last week, Howie Carr is a much better writer than speaker.
That is a great column. I drive through Watertown and Newton five times a week, and everything Howie points out is spot on.

Thanks for doing this column every week, RR. Guys like you preserve my sanity in Massachusetts.
you’re welcome, it’s my pleasure!

Mitts right: Handouts do win votes

Mitt Romneys only mistake was lumping together all of the 47 percent who dont pay income taxes.
A lot of them are elderly, and many of them are voting for Mitt. And there are some people who work, but just dont make a lot of money, or who would be working if they werent legitimately disabled.
But the indisputable fact is, a huge percentage of Obamas voters are basically wards of the state. There are millions of them, and they have no intention of voting for anyone who might want them to ever go out and work for a living no matter what.
As Romney said in Boca Raton last May: Ill never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
Hes right. Remember the women in Detroit who were lining up for Obama bucks right after the inauguration in 2009. A radio reporter asked them where they thought the money was coming from, and one of them guessed it was from Obamas stash. I dont know. But he givin it to us. We love him!
Who do you suppose those women will be voting for Nov. 6?
Undoubtedly the same candidate as the woman in Orlando who was videotaped at a 2008 rally for Democrats saying that once Obama got in, I wont have to worry about putting gas in my car, I wont have to worry about paying my mortgage.
This is nothing new. Theres a classic book thats taught, or used to be taught, in college political science classes. Democracy in America it was written more than 150 years ago by a Frenchman, Alexis de Tocqueville. He had the same take as Mitt on what has become the American welfare state:
A democracy ... can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy.
Can someone say QE3, the Feds third round of so-called quantitative easing?
Anyone who doesnt think the welfare-industrial complex is trying to increase dependency isnt paying attention. Last weekend in Arlington, someone handed me a letter from the superintendent of a school system north of Boston thats trying to get more kids onto the towns free lunch program.
In an effort to increase participation in the program, the superintendent wrote in boldface, any family that completes a free/reduced lunch application by September 21, 2012, will be entered into a drawing on Monday, October 5 for a chance to win one of two iPads.
Get on welfare, get a free iPad. It may not be PC to say it, but Mitt Romney is on to something here.

I see Newton hasn’t changed since I abandoned it in 1976 : )
Fri column ping. I didn’t hear the debate—didn’t want to hear Granny but figured I’d get highlights on 11 pm news (Ch 7—”Brown is behind in two new polls”—WRONG) and with Howie.
Howie column below. Marisa DeFranco is the other Dem senate candidate, who got muscled off the ballot. I am unenrolled and took a Dem ballot to vote for Mary Ellen Manning, who lost, but I wrote in DeFranco for Senate and the GOP’s Rich Tisei for Congress.
Also I guess a Tierney-Tisei debate won’t have stuff about the Tierney Crime Family? Supp. Tierney (I just saw Herald headline)won’t debate if it’s brought up. Great Tisei ad
about it, out now.
Okay.
A note to Granny: Youre not in Oklahoma anymore

Round one to Scott Brown.
Granny Warren is described in one of her bios as a legendary high school debater in Oklahoma.
Shes not in high school anymore.
The kid from the poor side of town handled her with ease, landing one blow after another. You could see how thin-skinned she really is. Shes not used to having anybody talk back to her.
When he was pummeling her on the asbestos litigation, and her $225,000 payday, and on the $700,000 she and her husband make from Harvard, she seemed on the verge of losing it. But Scott didnt go for the knockout that never works in a debate for a guy. Just ask Rick Lazio.
My favorite line was when he said, Can you imagine a Senate with 100 Professor Warrens?
I cant imagine 100 Professor Warrens anywhere, except in a nightmare.
Sometimes, watching those aw-shucks TV spots, you forget how sharp Scotts elbows can be. Like when she cited his vote against Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court he cited Kagans almost total lack of experience outside academia.
But before that, he hit her with a beautiful right cross: Im sorry I voted against your boss.
This woman has lived in Massachusetts for, what, 15 years. Surely she should have figured out by now that a lot of people here dont like Harvard. Or the Globe. Too many phonies in both places, of which she is currently Exhibit A.
Some of the blows Brown landed were subtle, almost too quick for the judges to score. Like at the end when he mentioned her bragging about being the founder of the radical Occupy Wall Street movement.
Other times he would circle back around, as he did with the Indian question. She was prepared, as well as she could be, considering that everyone knows by now shes a complete fraud who would still be nearing retirement in some tank town if she hadnt decided to check the box.
Then he brought up the box again, slamming her Johnny-one-note calls for higher taxes, while she wont check the box to pay higher taxes herself.
She hasnt been in the real world for a very long time, at least since she started checking the box and stealing recipes from The New York Times [NYT]. She thinks were stupid. Does she think we arent reminded of her political trajectory when she keeps saying, Im in this race because ?
Shes in this race because she was drafted, by the Politburo that runs the Democratic Party in this state and country. She wasnt playing well with others in D.C., so this was her consolation prize. A U.S. Senate seat.
If I were an apparatchik this morning in one of the Peoples Republics, Id be asking, where is Marisa DeFranco when we need her?

He did not note that Harry Reid held up a Senate vote so that Brown just barely had time to make it to the studio. He arrived at Logan less than an hour before the debate, *drove himself* to the studio, and according to witnesses, he was cool and composed. Liz arrived in a chauffeured campaign car with time to spare.
Reid actually made references to Brown in the Senate, making it clear that the vote was delayed expressly to inconvenience him. (Howie played Reid’s comments on his radio show.)
Respondents to a CBS-Boston/WBZ listeners’ poll are giving the debate to Brown 84-16.

I would say that you are being unfair to McScreamer, but you are not. Five words out of her mouth and I turn off the radio. (There is no alternative with Jay and Jeff off the air.) It’s not just her voice, it’s her choice of words and her inflection. It’s a shame that talented men like Jeff and Jay are out of work, while McScreamer has a gig. Say what you will about the two J’s, they are articular, glib and interesting.
yup I did hear Sandy mention that part and Howie talked about what a bear the drive from Logan to Soldier’s Field Rd is...

Today, TheBlaze announced the most recent expansion of the Glenn Beck news, information, entertainment, and e-commerce network: TheBlaze Radio Network. Available online, on iPhone, iPad, and on iHeartRadio, listeners will now be able to live stream hours of content free of charge. The new lineups launch date will be announced at a later time.
Jay is a disgusting libertine, libertarian. But my audience knows that because they are the best and brightest!
Of all hosts to pick up.
Jay has claimed in the past that he is “friends” with Beck, not sure what the extent of their friendship is, but, man, I was stunned when I heard Beck had picked him up. Jeff still remains unemployed.
