I know we’ve been doing it for some time now but what the heck is our FBI doing investigating crimes in other countries?

I grew up knowing the FBI was nationally, here, and the CIA has authority to handle out of country incidents. The first time I remember the FBI going out of country was the investigation of the Cole. Since then it seems they are going out of country on a regular basis.
