Chicago Teachers Vote to Continue Strike By STEPHANIE BANCHERO
The Chicago public school teachers strike entered its second week after the teachers union declined Sunday to call off a week-long walkout that has catapulted the city into the national debate over teacher evaluations and job security.
Only hours earlier, Chicago Teachers Union officials had trumpeted new concessions they said they had extracted from Mayor Rahm Emanuel during talks to settle the strike that started last Monday and has canceled classes for 350,000 students in the nation's third largest district.
The vote to continue the strike came Sunday night by the union's governing body, the house of delegates, after its members looked over the tentative deal negotiated by city and union leaders. The proposed contract had been finalized earlier in the day, giving the 700-member group little time to digest its details.
Union president Karen Lewis said delegates were "not happy" with the agreement and told union membership they needed a day to consult with rank-and-file teachers.
The delegates will meet again on Tuesday. "They would like it to be a lot better for us," she said.
Ms. Lewis said the earliest students could be back in school is Wednesday.
The vote came a day after the union sent out a statement late Saturday highlighting its successes in the talks, including scaling back the mayor's attempt to base 40% of teacher evaluations on student test scores. The tentative deal would base only 30% on student test scores, according to the union, a ratio already dictated by state law.

Look at the teachers who were marching and holding up signs in their Communist Red shirts....85% badly overweight.....umm un not good role models. The woman in the picture probably has huge medical bills as well as food bills.
I would play that clip from a few years ago of the Chicago teacher chanting, “raise our taxes” night and day.

And to think, I'm going to be hearing that fat, disgusting pig of a woman 11 floors down on Clark Street on the bullhorn again with her "teachers" as they protest again. Just f'ing great.
The first child that's shot in Englewood will have their blood on that fat, disgusting pig of a woman's hands. Nearly 400,000 kids in Chicago are nothing but targets for the gang-bangers right now.

Ha! Good for you. I did the same thing at a teachers strike in Boston that I stumbled on, about ten years ago. I told them I wanted my money back for my crappy education, among other things. They were dumbfounded.
There will be no Superman for these kids...the teachers union will make sure of that.
How anyone can defend the school system in Chicago is shocking. I also do not understand why I do not see more parents on my TV protesting the teachers....at least on the weekends?

The seeds have grown as the Mayor intended....and they grew a crop of toxic weeds with sharp thorns.
Now the good Mayor is stuck with the worthless and expensive crop.
He should just fire every one of the "teachers"..ban their "union" and immediately advertise for qualified teachers at a reasonable salary. He would be shocked at just how many of the former "union" teachers who would sign up and go to work tomorrow. Another thing he could do is to get a law passed which would cap the total compensation of anybody who worked for a union to no more than 50K a year. Lets see once and for all just how dedicated the "bosses" are to the "rank and file"

The people of Chicago are screwed if they think that using force on the union thugs is going to make things hunky-dory....this shiite will go on for weeks...maybe never get "settled" so that everyone is happy.
The "children" will get dumber and in more trouble just because of a handfull of malcontent teachers and union thug bosses.

Oh, Moochelle, I think Chicago teacher’s union President could use some “get up and move” advice! Maybe you could get Bloomberg to explain the no 20oz sweet drinks to her too.
BTW, I do understand all these rules, lectures, laws, etc. are only
directed at the little people and they never intend on following them themselves, right, Moochelle?!
