Akin is an idiot. There is no loyalty in politics. It is all about winning, no different than professional sports. You don’t keep a Running Back who’s lost a step on your team, you cut him and bring in the next best person. Politics is the same. Akin made some idiotic comments that he can’t recover from and the GOP can’t defend. He was doomed the moment he opened his mouth and starting blathering on about women’s bodies closing up and magically preventing pregnancy when raped. And no, don’t try to defend those comments - even Akin doesn’t try to defend them.

This seat is more important than Akin. There are plenty of solid pro-lifers who could have stepped in and beat Claire. As is, Akin will lose and liberal McCaskill will keep the seat for 6 more years for the Democrats.

Akin is an idiot. There is no loyalty in politics. It is all about winning, no different than professional sports. You don’t keep a Running Back who’s lost a step on your team, you cut him and bring in the next best person.

The GOP doesn't have the power to "cut him" out of the race. It is up to Akin and the voters who elected him to be the nominee in the primary to decide. If the GOP had not jumped the gun and publicly humiliated someone who had served the party well at the state and federal level for 24 years, it may have been able to convince him to withdraw. The GOP screwed up and Akin refused to bow to such pressure and humiliation.

Akin made some idiotic comments that he can’t recover from and the GOP can’t defend. He was doomed the moment he opened his mouth and starting blathering on about women’s bodies closing up and magically preventing pregnancy when raped. And no, don’t try to defend those comments - even Akin doesn’t try to defend them.Akin offered an apology and an explanation of why he said what he said. He should have used forcible instead of legitimate. The FBI has set up various categories of rape. One is forcible to distinguish it from statutory and other forms of rape. Akin and Paul Ryan had sponsored a bill that passed the House that would have limited federal funding for abortion to forcible rape. As far as the other dubious scientific claim about whether pregnancy is more or less likely to result in the cases of rape, Akin was just expressing a view.

Alkin apologized almost immediately saying he meant forcible and that he was not saying that rapes don't result in pregnancies. The GOP refused to accept that apology and publicly humiliated him. They could have just as easily said that the GOP disassociates itself from such comments, note that Akin has apologized, and now it was time for the voters of MO to see where Akin and McCaskill stand on such issues as Obamacare, the stimulus, debt and deficit, etc. It is pretty obvious there was another agenda in this case. The GOP Establishment was unhappy that Akin won the primary. They put enormous pressure on him to force him out before the Tuesday deadline.

This seat is more important than Akin. There are plenty of solid pro-lifers who could have stepped in and beat Claire. As is, Akin will lose and liberal McCaskill will keep the seat for 6 more years for the Democrats.

I blame the GOP for not handling this matter well at all. It is a self-fulfilling prophesy. And we still have people here attacking Akin. Why is the GOP still allowing Akin to twist slowly in the wind? Do you think it helps Romney? For better or worse, Akin is the nominee of the party. He is very conservative and would make a far better senator than McCaskill. Will the 71% of the people of MO who voted in a referendum to not join Obamacare vote to reelect a senator who voted for Obamacare and is against repeal. Does a verbal gaffe neutralize McCaskill's voting record? We shall see.
