Republican candidate Mitt Romney responded to criticism after a video surfaced of him calling out 47 percent of Americans for not paying income taxes, saying they all feel entitled to government handouts and will vote for President Obama no matter what. In the video, Romney can be heard saying that its not his job to convince those people to vote for him, but rather he needs to focus on independent voters.
Romney defended to the tape, saying, It doesnt capture the question, so I dont know precisely what was asked, but I think it was about my campaign and how Id be able to get the majority of voters to support me.
The GOP nominee asked for the entire video to be released. He said that it was not elegantly stated and that he was speaking off the cuff.
Romney went on to say that its a message he plans on continuing to carry....

“Typical white person.”
Oh, you mean he made another misstep. (eye roll)
STOP apologizing Romney, what you said is true, most of the people who support obama ARE on the government dole.
Romney has to be careful that he doesn’t dig himself deeper into this sh*t which is just what the media wants him to do.
sounds like he’s getting serious....
October is going to be fun
I think he’s starting to figure out he has to fight for it if he wants it.
The MSM Obama Media is trying to gin this up to deflect from the fact that Obama is a completely failed President, who is watching his failed policies go up in smok as we speak!
No apology. Hit hard!
53% of the voters approve this message.
I thought Romney did very well in the press conference. If we see that Mitt in the debates, I’m pretty confident about his chances in November.
Gas
Middle East
Jobs
Food Prices
Plus there are a ton of people this was the elephant in the room now lets discuss it
He didnt apologize. He said it is the same thing I say in public.
Good for him, now start talking about high gas prices whenever he talks about the 47pcters not paying their fair share and see how quick the media changes the subject
The middle east is melting down, and the MSM is playing “gotcha” with Romney. Jerez.
Mitt, fight, fight and fight some more!
That reminds me, wasn't Donald Trump going to release something damaging to Obama? Waiting til October, or called off by the Romney Campaign?
But many of the ‘public servants’ don’t think of themselves on the dole, yet they are and still net negative tax paying citizens.
Barack Ubama is focused on E.D. ... ENVY & DIVISION!
Force more people on to the public dole and create as much government dependency as he can.
” - - - The GOP nominee asked for the entire video to be released.”
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is what libs are afraid of. Romney looks very presidential and will kill in debate and need to take him b4 then..
The Donald isn’t real reliable....
I’m kinda wondering how long it will take for all these protests to blow-up in the MSM.
I know I’m being optimistic or naive, but really ?
Gotta give Mitt credit, he didn’t back down. Now he needs to get on message, stay agressive. Go after Obama. Nice guys lose. Whatever dirt Mitt has (and they do have Obama dirt), they need to play hard ball and release it right back.
” - - - - him calling out 47 percent of Americans for not paying income taxes, saying they all feel entitled to government handouts and will vote for President Obama no matter what. “
Are these the same 47 % who are guilty of “NOT PAYING THEIR FAIR SHARE?”
I watched the News Conference video. I did NOT see him apologizing. He said “...this is the message I will continue to carry.” Of course, I’d have loved to have seen him a little more assertive, but, I thought he handled it well. If he’d said something like: “I’m sorry if I offended anyone...” I’d have been livid. But, he didn’t. (Thank God)
and when he said he used bad of choice or something to that effect was not in his prepared text, it was used when he was asked a question..
It may have not been NLP wordsmithed to manipulate people like Obama’s teleprompter, but it was accurate.
could this be a sneaky “gotcha” from the Romney camp...a way to steal away the news cycle from Obama?
I’m not sure if you’re asking me a question or making a statement. What he said was that he was answering a question about how he planned to win the election and that his comment “was not elegantly stated”. But, he did not back down.
just making a statement
You are correct Romney did not say I apologize or I may have offended he did say I didn’t say it elegantly and off the cuff - good grief that is an apology.
I said this on the original Post about this situation:
If “You didn’t build that” didn’t sink Obama, this won’t sink Romney. I don’t think there is a total of 10% of the people in America who are not familiar with Obama’s statement. He offended a lot more than 47% of the people with his statement. This too shall pass.

Romney was strong in the press conference. He was correct that the statement was a little inelegant (imagine how unpolished Obama’s message sounds behind the scenes. “I can’t believe these stupid Americans actually think they built it”)
But his message was fundamentally correct. The welfare state is too expansive. If Romney can refine and sharpen the message, this will be an effective attack line, and it’s good to see Freepers giving him credit for not backing down. Makes you wonder if he did something right...
Good response.
A nominated Republican candidate speaks “inelegantly”? I must therefore call upon Romney to immediately step aside so that we can select another candidate who will not be attacked by the mainstream media and thus endanger other Republican candidates.
I disagree. This is THE breakout moment for Romney!
47 % of Americans do NOT pay their fair share of Personal Federal Income Taxes.
Romney up to now has embraced the RINO Hydra of trying in vain to win over Moderates, Independents, Undecided and the other fence sitters.
Here is the main idea from the article that I base this on: - - - Asked why he wouldnt go full-throttle and assail Obama as corrupt, Romney explained the internal thinking of his campaign and revealed that he and his aides, in response to focus-group studies conducted by his consultants, were hesitant to hammer the president too hard out of fear of alienating independents who voted for Obama in 2008 - - - .
Key phrases that keep Romney tied with Obama are his aides, focus-group studies, his consultants, and fear of alienating independents.
PC stands for Poor Choice Romney, and is the favorite tool of the Liberals.
America needs a leader to get us back on the Right Track, Romney.
Tick-Tock Romney: can you discard the above 4 PC groups that keep you tied with Obama? Tick-Tock.
” - - - A nominated Republican candidate speaks inelegantly? - - - “
Since when is feasting on RED MEAT supposed to be “elegant?”
Go Mitt!!!!!
Going to be interesting to see what he fall out on this is. This is either the point the election was won or lost by Mitt Romney. The GOP is rallying to his cause. The Dems are going bat sh*t crazy. It’s all boils down to the independents. If their inner guilty white person comes out, Romney is toast. If the indies like it, Romney will win....We’ll know in a week.
This was Romney’s BEST SPEECH EVER!
Up til now I’ve considered him a nauseating RINO, but this speech TOTALLY changes my mind about him.
Why the hell is he apologizing for it???
A politician tells you what you want to hear in a speech. But they tell you what they really believe in impromptu remarks.
I think Romney’s remarks about the 47% were dead on. And I’m convinced he believes this.
Conservatives who have doubts about this guy should seriously reconsider.

"Elegance"....:)
Romney did a very good job on this.
