Early voting statistics for North Carolina thus far: Absentee ballot requests (Repub-44 Dems-38)
GMU ^ | 9/19/12 | GMU

Posted on 09/19/2012 11:27:50 AM PDT by Ravi

North Carolina's pace of returned ballots continues to increase, with 2,105 reported as of yesterday.

As of this morning, registered Republicans now outnumber registered Democrats among returned ballots accepted by North Carolina election officials by 5.9 percentage points (43.7% to 37.9%). Yesterday, I noted how more registered Democrats had returned mail ballots than registered Republicans, by 4.5 percentage points (43.3% to 38.8%). In 2008, registered Republicans vastly outnumbered registered Democrats among all mail ballots -- not all early voters -- by 25.7 percentage points (53.7% to 30.0%).

The cause for yesterday's temporary blip where registered Democrats outnumbered Republicans among returned ballots appears to be Democratic leaning overseas citizens who are able to vote electronically by e-mail or fax, and thus return their ballots more quickly that domestic absentee voters who do not have an electronic delivery option (h/t anonymous reader). This is apparent when the returned ballos are cross-tabulated by who has returned ballots and their party registration as of this morning:

Very early results. Worth keeping an eye on. Differentiate between early in person voting and absentee ballot early voting and percentages between 2008 and 2012. Who knew you could fax your choice for president from overseas in North Carolina? Unbelievable.

Also, ballot requests down greatly for Indiananapolis - that bodes well. Again very early. The election has started.

Sorry but regardless of who the numbers favor I don’t think this type of information should be made public prior to election day.

How many Democrats are voting for Romney, too? Both, Obama and Romney are leftists.

A lot of Obama/Biden signs in my area of the Outer Banks. Many more than 2008. Go figure.

Two of my Masshole neighbors will be soon heading your way to retire.

You’re lucky this time. Only one is a liberal.

I guess I’m old-fashioned(some would call it “conservative”) but early voting and even all this lazy absentee ballot voting seems... un-American. I think the Founders specified dates because they thought all of us voting on the same day was important. Isn’t the vote of someone who voted today suspect if, say, our country is attacked next week and our president had information and didn’t act on it? Do those voters get a Mulligan?

If single-day voting isn’t important, why not just let people vote online the day after the conventions ratify the party’s nominee?

Most of the those folks here are retired. I don’t think they realize what zero has in store for us retired people.

I might be wrong in remembering, hoping I am. But it seems like there was the same situation in 2008, with early voting favoring Republicans, and those (fake?) early voting ballots ended up being for obama, along with the high Republican turnout in November going for obama.

“A lot of Obama/Biden signs in my area of the Outer Banks.”

...I have a home in Duck that I go to about 4x’s a year and couldn’t believe how many Obama signs I saw in ‘08. I always thought of OBX as conservative, no?

“I always thought of OBX as conservative, no?”
Whom ever I talk to is either a Romney or Ron Paul supporter, with some Gary Johnson. Big Tea Party support here as well. Don’t know what these zero supporters are thinking. The zero signs I see are from Duck to Nags Head. Haven’t been to Manteo yet.

On Election Day that could cause a problem if these votes are counted *after* “traditional” votes are counted. If they're counted simultaneously there's no problem. If they *are* counted after that could skew early results toward Osama Obama which could conceivably depress votes in states to the west.Think Florida Panhandle 2000.

From the mischief I have seen with absentee ballots in recent years, I am not sure this is good news. Absentee ballots are a much easier target for Dims to find ways to disqualify.

Wonder if that means that our military can fax or email a ballot response from overseas?

Really?? Oh prey-tell tell me which 3rd party candidate are you going to WASTE your VOTE ON?? Voting any third party will help Obama RUIN AMERICA!!

I wouldn't vote 3rd party if you put a gun to my head. Yes the GOP is NOT as CONSERVATIVE as it should be, but with the tea partiers we might force the GOP to go back to CONSERVATIONISM!!
