BTW yesterday I mentioned the gal with the Prius having it towed. She is a really nice gal....though a bit misguided about some things...but is battling a brain tumor. I think she's doing quite well but mrs p6 and some of the other neighbors think otherwise.
In any case I was speaking with her yesterday and she said the battery in her Prius had gone bad after 5 years. It wasn't the main batter but the regular one so at 5 years that's not unusual. She could have driven it on big battery but decided to let AAA take it to her dealer. The y replaced the battery and she had it back home in less than 2 hours! GREAT service!
She works about the same distance as I do from home and drives about the same amount. All it costs is $20 a month for gas, basically less than a tank a month.
Got to give credit were it's due, that's not bad at all!
If only it was bigger inside, and what happens when the big battery goes out....?
I don’t mind the idea of hybrids - purely for economic reasons (saving on the cost of gas) and not for environmental reasons. I think it’s a good option.
I sent Jim an e-mail about several books written about Rachel Carson and the damage that resulted from the ban of DDT. Both books written by college profs.

Henry Miller, scholar at Stanford University’s Hoover Institute, argued in a Sept. 5 op-ed for Forbes.com called “Rachel Carson’s Deadly Fantasies” that Carson’s real legacy lie in her disingenuous claims that stopped a useful life saver around the world.
“DDT was used with dramatic effect to shorten and prevent typhus epidemics during and after WWII when people were dusted with large amounts of it but suffered no ill effects, which is perhaps the most persuasive evidence that the chemical is harmless to humans,” Miller wrote.
Another expert, Dennis Avery, a senior fellow for the Hudson Institute, said Carson is indirectly responsible for millions of preventable deaths noting “The absence of DDT had led to the needless deaths of at least 30 million people from malaria and yellow fever in the tropics … Most of them were helpless African children.”
