Political Insider: Dan Cathy took part in Chick-fil-A talks on gay rights
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 9/22/12 | Jim Galloway

August was a busy month at Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta, especially when it came to the topic of gay marriage.

On Wednesday, a Chicago alderman had dropped his objections to the first standalone Chick-fil-A restaurant in his city, after the fast-food franchise persuaded him that it had withdrawn from the political battle over same-sex marriage.

Several weeks of negotiations with Chick-fil-A executives had produced internal company guidelines that prohibit discrimination in hiring and customer service. Alderman Joe Moreno also said that, in August, executives of the family-held firm also opened the books of Chick-fil-A’s charitable foundation, to prove that it no longer gave money to groups opposing same-sex unions.

Less known is the fact that, at the same time, Chick-fil-A was also holding talks with Campus Pride, a gay rights organization based in Charlotte, N.C., that had targeted the several hundred Chick-fil-A outlets on college campuses with an “education” campaign.

College students eat a lot of chicken sandwiches.

Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride, paid his most recent visit to Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta last Monday, after which he announced the suspension of his group’s campaign. Windmeyer said he, too, was given a chance to preview Chick-fil-A’s new hiring and service policy. He, too, was offered evidence that the company’s WinShape Foundation no longer gives money to groups considered hostile to gay rights.

****

One presumes that Chick-fil-A will attempt to draw a line between Cathy family giving and its corporate largesse. How that sells is a matter for the future.

They caved but are savvy to admit it. Face it we’re all suckers. Giving them tons of business and support just so they’d sell out to the PC squeaky wheel crowd. Nobody stands up for conservative values and stays standing. They all buckle like lil bitches.

Let me know when Chick-Fil-A opens on Sundays. That's how and when we'll find out that they caved.

From the PDF link to their corporate website -

The Chick-Fil-A Corporate Purpose is: “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A.”

That doesn’t sound like a company that has decided to surrender on the morality front.

Can it be that Freepers are so quick to dump patronage of a given company, simply based on the word of self-proclaimed homosexuals (Shane) and the Atlanta media?

Baptist Press offers a new take on this dispute, and this seems closer to the source than most have been:

Chick-fil-A's Dan Cathy: We have made no concessions

If this report is accurate, then Chik-fil-A's entire PR department needs to be fired. The PR person for the Vatican is better at image-building.

And threads like this have certainly helped them with the PR, haven't they?

This article needs to be trumpeted. And the fools on FR (including me sometimes) who continue to be puppets of the LSM need to add this to the many reasons not to have a knee-jerk reaction to first reports.

Please do not make excuses for them.

Believe me, I'm not trying to overlook anything here - I understand how the gay agenda totally destroys a culture.

Has God called Christians to go live totally separate from the world in their every interaction? Chick Fil A is just stating that they aren't going to discriminate when it comes to their customer base. It is a wise and godly statement.

If the material in the mainstream media were not going unchallenged by Chik-fil-A, there would be no sense in belaboring it. But apparently now, protests by conservative customers have alerted them that all is not well among their strongest constituency.

Nonetheless, inquiring minds still want to know: Did the company in fact initiate negotiations with both the alderman and the gay student advocacy group? If so, what exactly were the results of those negotiations? In particular, why did both these very motivated opponents agree to give up their campaigns against Chik-fil-A?

No one is looking to companies for salvation or morals.

Every company should have to refrain from promoting evil.

In fact, there are laws restraining companies from committing various evil acts.

The only question is... what exactly is on that "list of evil acts". What a society outlaws is determined by it's moral values. America's moral values have been on a decades-long downward slide.

I wholeheartedly agree - this is NOT looking for companies for morals or salvation.

Chik-fil-A are liars. They're talking out of both sides of their mouth.

If they wanted to put this to rest their 'giving arm' would make a donation immediately to one of the 'antigay hate groups' like Focus on the Family.

Talk is cheap. Look at what they do.

CFA did not change a thing. It’s policy/standards/donations have been the same way they are now. They didn’t change. All these articles seem to be slanted to make CFA lose supporters. Didn’t you read that article that got posted yesterday? They have changed nothing, from what I read. The fag organizations want to destroy CFA so they write extremely slanted articles, and this newspaper is no different.
