In Wisconsin, high school athletes are complaining about not getting enough to eat each day, due to the skimpy new school lunch menu mandated by the United States Department of Agriculture and First Lady Michelle Obama.
The story we published earlier this week on that subject is unfortunately not unique. Students across the country are complaining about the new school lunch regulations.
Perhaps the real motive is to starve students into slimming down. Just ask students in Pierre, South Dakota who, too, are in an all-out revolt.
"I know a lot of my friends who are just drinking a jug of milk for their lunch. And they are not getting a proper meal," middle school student Samantha Gortmaker told Keloland.com.
Despite the fact that the new regulations have increased the cost of a lunch 20 to 25 cents per plate, its not pleasing students.
Some are throwing away their vegetables while others are adapting to the rules by becoming industrious. In New Bedford, Massachusetts, students have created a black market - for chocolate syrup. The kiddie capitalists are smuggling in bottles of it and selling it by the squeeze, according to SouthCoastToday.com.
Nancy Carvalho, director of food services for New Bedford Public Schools, was quoted as saying that hummus and black bean salads have been tough sells in elementary cafeterias. That means even smaller children are going through the day fighting hunger pains, which can never be considered a good thing.
One government official tried to put the blame on the students.
"One thing I think we need to keep in mind as kids say they're still hungry is that many children aren't used to eating fruits and vegetables at home, much less at school. So it's a change in what they are eating. If they are still hungry, it's that they are not eating all the food that's being offered," USDA Deputy Undersecretary Janey Thornton was quoted as saying.
Ms. Thornton just put her finger on the problem. The government is trying to impose a new diet that children are not accustomed to. Its not reasonable to expect them to either eat what the government deems healthy or go hungry.
Many will opt to go hungry, and thats the governments fault.
Interstingly enough, you should see what these inner-city kids are eating. Mostly, Hot Fries, candy and soda. They bring them in from home and just push the cafe food around the plate at lunch time. In my two years at a inner city charter school I NEVER saw any kid eat anything healthy.
Yet Michelle doesn’t mention that.
“For all those years, I was up early to make 5 lunches”
Is it still an option in public schools?
Yeah; I think I could make a good ad for the RNC with that.
This is unreal. If we can't get these clowns out of office this year; we should hang it up.
Where do you think 'federal money' comes from?
And why do you think that money should be used as a cudgel to extort behavior out of the people it was taken from?
Meat eaters are not as easily controlled as are the veggies.
It's all about control.
The way to get recognized as an "expert" in that system is to come up with a "new" revision that overthrows the previous system. It doesn't have to be true, just plausible enough to form a new paradigm. Time passes, and then another wannabe "expert" comes along...lather, rinse, repeat.
It's relatively harmless when it's just slick health magazines pushing the stuff — you can purchase them or not — but here, it's happening with the federal government behind it.
If God had wanted the government to raise kids, He could have given them to the government. But what we see IRL is that He actually gives them to parents. who are then responsible for them. It figures, since kids don't do well in the federally mandated one-size-fits-all-or-else regimen. This kid can eat PB&J, which would send that other one to the hospital. Fine: parents can give individual attention where it is needed, and they don't have to worry about being charged with favoritism because they don't do the same for the neighbors' kids, for whom they are not responsible.
Make out that the gummint is responsible for everybody, and you make this one-size-fits-all-but-actually-fits-nobody regimen the law of the land.
You can’t have your pudding if you don’t eat your meat!
It would be if my kids were still in school! I have no idea what the options are today.
Our son is a high school athlete, and he’s come home with the same complaint of inadequate food portions. The cafeteria staff are sympathetic but tell the kids that they’ll be fired if they give larger portions. Our son has already decided to go to a nearby convenience store before he swims at 5:30am to pick up a suitably sized hoagie for lunch rather than go to the cafeteria and go hungry. Absurd.
“For school districts that no longer provide paper, pencils and all the OTHER things I got for free from the Boston Public School District (it was stamped on the green pencils we got), wayyy back in neanderthal times ... 1953 or 4, They’re not broke”.
You didn’t get them for free. It was a way for the schools to give tax payer pencils to kids that did not or could not bring their own.
In the third grade at my school we were made to put all our own pencils into a box on the teachers desk for everyone to use as needed, these were pencils (a certain number, I don’t remember) we were required to buy and bring to school on the first day, of course there were a lot of kids who brought none. Communism in its simplest form.
When the box emptied we were told how many more we were required to bring. To her credit, the teacher also bought pencils and paper on her own.
I know my parent's tax dollars paid for the pencils, but I got pencils, paper, and an eraser at the beginning of the year ... up until around 5th or 6th grade.
I think the pencils were still available in Jr High, but we were too cool for them ... we bought BICs.
,,,,, just shut up and eat it ,,,, I’m the boss around here .
“What years are you referring to and what school district?”
Third grade, about 20 years ago, Illinois.
I was speaking with a high school girl and she said that the “meat” being served wasn’t meat at all but soy. Has anyone else heard of this?
It isn't who casts the votes, it's who counts the ballots.
The Big Lie sez: "Duh1 is winning".
If enough people believe that, they might get demoralized and not vote against him. If enough people believe the votes are close, it will be a running screen for the massive voter fraud the dems will need to take swing states.
Of course the polls are being reported as saying Obama is doing well...look at who is doing the reporting.
Our little local school district is going to cancel “grandparents day” because they are ashamed to serve the grandparents the food they are required to serve the children. The staff and all knows that no one likes the crap they have to serve.
When you can force citizens to buy health insurance, you can force them to eat what you want them to eat.
LOL...me too! I did the math...[average] 365 school days X 5 sammies X 12 years of school is 21,900 sandwiches. We deserve some kind of a brown bag award! LOL
The first day of school [via my GD], kids bring home notices of *peanut butter* allergies of some kid in the classroom....so PBJ sammies are NOT allowed. When the heck did *this* all happen? Ridiculous.
If you all vote right these kids will get decent food Jan. 20th...2013
