Having declared that his presidential campaign does not need a makeover, Republican Mitt Romney raised millions of dollars at two fundraisers in southern California on Saturday to help bankroll the final weeks of the race.
"I'm not even going to be able to go home today. We're just coming to town to see you and keep the campaign going," Romney told a well-heeled crowd at the Grand Del Mar Resort hotel in Del Mar, California, about 12 miles from his beachfront house in La Jolla.
Some 650 supporters - including diet guru Jenny Craig - paid from $1,000 to $25,000 a head to hear Romney's 40-minute speech in Del Mar, have their photograph taken with the candidate and eat roast chicken breast served on a bed of Israeli couscous.
Spencer Zwick, the campaign's national finance chairman, assured donors their money would be spent wisely: to build a "massive ground game across the country in those swing states" and buy more television advertising.
The second Saturday event, at the Beverly Hilton, pulled in $6 million, Romney said at the start of his remarks.
About 1,500 tickets were sold at three tiers: $1,000, $15,000 and $50,000. Guests were entertained by comedian Dennis Miller and songwriter/producer David Foster.

The fact he can fundraise in SOCAL is amazing.
Okay, Mittens. Now spend it wisely. Go on the attack against Hussein and don’t let up for one nano second between now and Nov. 6. And maybe skip Kelly Ripa next time.
You and the GOP owe it to the American people to win this race..
He was raising funds in NorCal too, but the SF Chronicle reported it with as much negative spin as possible. I pray Romney wins CA if he’s so good at getting money here.
Dennis Miller is doing good work. Kudos!
does Romney ever plan on SPENDING all this money?!?
because it’s honestly like there isn’t even an election in a few weeks. Quite as crickets.
This was a nice touch.
Romney needs to pull in big CROWDS.
“The fact he can fundraise in SOCAL is amazing.”
Not really. The San Diego area, which includes Del Mar, is heavily military and quite conservative. San Diego also has a heavy defense contractor presence.
Money which will almost entirely end up in the pockets of the fundraisers, the political consultants, and the media conglomerates.
To be used to manipulate the people to support a liberal.
None of which will do a thing to help save the republic.

All California is to Romney is a piggy bank.
He has already ceded California’s 55 electoral votes to Obama.
So, there is no excuse, not even a bad excuse, for any conservative in California not to vote for the only conservative on the presidential ballot there this year, which is yours truly.
Bob Hoefling 2012!
Pray all you want, he's toast here. That's what 40 years of "Republicans" in Southern California and multi-culti Silicon Valley outsourcing business leaders have created in this state.
Let me put it as indelicately as I can: the business owners in this state hired armies of non-white, Third World laborers as they could, all the while expecting the dwindling white middle class to keep voting for Republicans.
Sorry. They lost their jobs and moved to Phoenix.
So you can kiss the Golden State goodbye permanently, 'cuz it's now the Brown State, and they don't vote for the Protestant frugality line. Nope: El Jefe in de gobermint gonna take care of us, 'cuz he's de Beeg Man.
Romney and other "Republicans" can collect a few shekels here but it's a sea of Obambi bumper stickers where I live. Saw one woman with a Romney sticker on her Land Rover headed to Monterey the other day, all the thug Dims in cars around her were trying to sideswipe her.
California is enemy territory now, and we can all thank the Cheap Labor bidness crowd for it.
“So, there is no excuse, not even a bad excuse, for any conservative in California not to vote for the only conservative on the presidential ballot there this year, which is yours truly.”
Sorry, I am supporting Mitt and others on the Republican ticket. I am keeping my eye on the target and that is defeating Obama and the dimoKKKRATS.
Apparently the plan is to launch a massive media blitz the final four weeks of the campaign, starting the weekend after the first debate on October 4. Until then, the focus is on preparing Romney for the debates and fundraising.
With Romney internals showing them comfortably ahead , confirmed by this website, there's no need to shoot the wad of cash right now. The idea is to get through the debates unscathed and then pour it on in the final weeks.
Nobody is going to remember campaign commercials on Nov 6 that were run in September.
Right. So Obama can win the national vote and cry foul and send everything to courts.
No thanks. Every vote counts. Even in blue states.
Yes.
Absolutely.
The old "Dear Abby" column used to print an item just before Election Day about the importance of the one vote. It was a nonpartisan column, not supporting any particular party or candidate, but only the importance of getting to the polls and voting.
I still remember the Kerry windsurfing and swiftboat ads, which were aired a lot longer than 2 months ago. If they define Obama now and early it will take hold. There might not be time later to change people’s perceptions.
That’s not the point. The pro Romney Super Pacs should expand the playing field and begin saturation of PA-NJ-DE market; NM; Minn; and more in Michigan.
Move the needle, and force Obama on defense. Why? Because he can’t keep up.
DRAIN OBAMA DRY NOW.
Which brings us to the bigger problem... Too many very wealthy people are not putting their $$$ where there mouth is.
This election could be won by October 15 if people who know better would write some checks. Their money is no good on Nov 7 if Obama wins, because he will confiscate it.
I’ve made 12 gifts to Romney and Restore Our Future but i am just a middle class guy.
