I’m afraid I have to side with Philippe Reines a little about this. He’s angry because CNN swiped the dead Ambassador’s diary from the scene, and had been reporting on facts gleaned from it for two days before admitting they cribbed everything from crime scene evidence.

Not sure what you're saying in your reply, but regarding that "diary"...

...the "diary" is actually like an official journal than a personal diary. According to former ambassador John Bolton, these journals are supposed to be kept by all ambassadors or consuls.

In other words, the so-called diary is something like a ship's log. It is not someone's personal, private, confidential writings.

An official record that Obama and Hillary weren't worried about falling into the hands of any Tom, Dick or Achmed. Just more noise, and a bump in Obama's campaign.

Yes, that is correct. I prefer the word “logbooks” when I talk about the ones I keep.

I think the British use the word “diary” to refer to their “appointment book.”
