Former Aussie Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is vocally against gay marriage as well, and he's from the left-wing Labor Day. Interesting enough, I heard Rudd is considered more left-of-center in the party, whereas Gillard is considered the favorite of "progressives" in the party. But both of them oppose gay marriage, as does the leader of the conservative-leaning "Liberal" Party.
Compare that to America where not only Obama is opening supporting gay marriage now (I know, he was forced to, but still...) but we have Dick Cheney, Laura Bush, and Ted Olsen publicly supporting it. Just 10 years ago, that would be considered a radical far-left position that would severely damage a politician's career if they weren't running in a safe RAT district. Now it's trendy and fashionable.Puke. At least the public still overwhelmingly rejects gay marriage no matter what state votes on it. The election results fly in the face of the media propaganda that a "majority" of Americans now favor gay marriage. They can't even get voters in liberal east coast and west coast states to pass it, let alone the bible belt.
The problem here is with the activist judges and sellout politicians forcing the issue. Australia's looking better and better these days.
She herself probably is pandering. The bill was going down, so why support it when your party has been trailing in the polls?
But it’s nice to see that half the Australian Labor party is still against it.
A breathe of fresh air considering the gay marriage fest they had at the RAT party convention this year. (even notice how the media NEVER lectures the Dems about too much focus on "polarizing social issues")
In the UK it's even worse... "Conservative" Tory PM David Cameron is pushing for gay marriage. Of course, if he's conservative, I'm the easter bunny.
