Upstate is mixed. But NYC is half of the state and it's quite blue. Having lived upstate for 30 years (Big Flats is an hour west of here), I wish we'd adopt the Maine/Nebraska practice of apportioning Electoral College votes by congressional district. Republicans write us off and Democrats take us for granted. If there were a way for a Republican candidate to pick up 8-10 EVs by capturing parts of upstate, it would be worth his/her time.
We do have the relative peace and quiet of not being a battleground state, saturated with political adds.

Interesting... I didn’t know Maine and Nebraska apportioned their electoral votes. Sounds like New York is like Illinois. It get ruled by Chicago.

Sadly, he may win half the area of the state but still lose all the EVs. You will only have proportional EV if you force it to happen in your state.
