Conservative leaders claim unprecedented media bias this election cycle

Two-dozen conservative activists and media personalities on Tuesday urged members of their respective groups to switch off the "biased news media," claiming in an open letter that establishment media are "out of control with a deliberate and unmistakable leftist agenda."

Though these groups frequently complain about a left-leaning media bias, they claimed in the letter that the political slant this cycle is unprecedented.

"In the quarter century since the Media Research Center was established to document liberal media bias, there has never been a more brazen and complete attempt by the liberal so-called 'news' media to decide the outcome of an election," wrote Brent Bozell, president of the Media Research Center, and other conservative leaders.

They ticked off a litany of grievances against the news media, saying they've been "shamefully smearing" Mitt Romney over the course of the election.

Among their charges were that the media have painted conservative ideas as "extreme;" downplayed the "horrendous economic conditions" in the country; focused more on shortcomings in Romney's business background than in Obama's record as president; been "pouncing" on missteps by conservatives while "suppressing" gaffes by Vice President Biden; and been "deliberately covering up embarrassing government failures and scandals, including the Solyndra debacle, Fast & Furious, and national security leaks."

According to NewsBusters, part of MRC, the letter was directed at the heads of ABC News, NBC News, CBS News and CNN.

Agreed. However, it is good to bring this out “officially” so the seeds are planted. I believe most informed people know this, even if they don't want to admit it. Maybe shining a light on this will bring some folks to view the mm with a more skeptical eye.

I said 4 years ago that the GOP needed to call out the bias in the media otherwise we’d ave the same crap in 2012 and they did not and how right I was.

I keep hearing how Romney has lost ground in a bad two weeks but obama was the guy who after the attacks and deaths he cancelled his intel briefing.
then flew to Vegas,
Then had two campaign stops and two fundraising parties.
He has nto been to even half the intel briefings.
His foreign polcy has failed
His national policy has failed

Yeah, and about all “we the people” can do about it at this point is to vote with our feet, or our clickers in this case, which in point of fact we’ve been doing by the millions over the past few years.

While I hope to see the death of the alphabet networks and the bird-cage-liner press before my own demise, I hope even more to see the rise of a popular and successful true conservative alternative TV channel, a la Glenn Beck’s new cable channel. I really wish though that he had the imagination and financial wherewithal to populate this channel with a full line up of high-quality, original programming, all with a conservative slant, including police dramas, sitcoms, animated series, and a conservative SNL. The really tough part of this would be to find sponsors with balls, either that or make it as a premium, paid channel like HBO, in effect, a conservative alternative to HBO.

Ideally, some of these shows would become iconic and engender “watercooler” conversations at the office in the morning. I know the conservative creative talent is out there, it’s just a matter of will and finances to find it and put it to work. If I was doing it, I’d start with an open talent call, and finance the top 50 with $10,000 to $50,000 each and air the resulting “pilots”, including youtube placement. I remember how Southpark got its start, namely with one of the very first viral videos ever, “The Spirit of Christmas” in 1995.

Oh geeze, this is reminding me more and more of the 1996 campaign. Yes, the media is absolutely biased and folks on the right need to gravitate away from the dinosaur media - unfortunately it is an absolute sign of a losing campaign when one of the big issues being discussed is conservatives complaining about media bias.

The media has been biased a lot longer than most people today think. I studied journalism in the 1970’s just after Watergate. Lots of journalism majors back then wanted to “change the world”, rather than objectively report it.
