It really pains me that so many have given their lives for naught.
Interesting question. Rice has some skeletons, political and personal, including associations with progressives and the far left that might have been revealed had she run for a Republican office, but was never, to my knowledge, close to being a Communist. Stanford, while it doesn't compete with Harvard, gets lots of money for educating children of the Saudis. One literally needs to be careful not to trip over someone praying on the patio at Tresider Union. Condi's graduate work, under Madeline Albright’s father, was in USSR and Russian history. She is a fine pianist.
Doctrinaire Marxism was specific to departments such as Comparative Literature, Spanish, Forestry and Energy and Environment, and probably others with which I had no involvement, and so won't comment. I knew two individuals, both from South America, with sparkling resumes, but whose families had suffered under communism, and were not active revolutionaries in the US, in word or deed. The were both rejected in favor of non-native speaking Marxists with degrees from less presdigious schools and who published mostly Marxist analysis which no one ever read. No party requirements required for physics, engineering, chem. It is part of getting older to meet many expats from China, the children of those whose futures were redirected, no Beijing University even for the brightest in the class, because a parent or relative was on the wrong side.
