Doing well, thanks! A fairly uneventful day

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

FREEDOM ISN’T FREE!

It Is Purchased With The Blood Of Patriots!

“Freedom Isn’t Free”

By Cdr. Kelly Strong USCG (ret)

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He’d stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers’ tears?
How many pilots’ planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers’ graves?
No, freedom isn’t free.

Taps

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant “Amen,”
When a flag had covered a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives,
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington,
No, freedom isn’t free.

Our front yard since Saturday....thankfully the tree is on the ground and not threatening to fall on the neighbor's driveway and/or garage.

Down at the corner, one house is just about done cleaning up several downed tress, while another's whole backyard looks to have downed trees in it.

My goodness! You were very fortunate not to have a tree in
your living room!...or the neighbor’s! I know you are really
ready to have it cleaned up!

I have an urgent prayer request. Just tonight I received word regarding a friend.

Ray Nadeau, a retired U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, as well as a Vietnam Vet, and fellow Patriot Guard Rider, suffered a stroke Tuesday evening while in the Los Angeles area visiting family. Ray is from Westwood California, is 85 years of age, and a great friend. We have ridden together on quite a few PGR missions missions in Northern California and Western Nevada. Ray underwent surgery following the stroke, and word is that he is doing well at this time.

Ray had been in a motorcycle accident on August 18, 2012, while riding with a group of PGR members for a mission to escort a fallen U.S. Army Soldier from Oroville, CA to Quincy, CA. He escaped serious injury, but did have bruised lungs, and a broken rib. He was in LA to complete the process of probate for his recently deceased sister.

Ray is an absolutely fantastic person - definately a member of the Greatest Generation of our nation. I consider Ray a great friend. I personally appreciate prayers rendered for Ray and for a full recovery. SD

Must retire – the 0500 Reveille approaches relentlessly.

The Bugler, his grim visage replete with an evil sneer, already mounts the parapet.

Do poor Tom some charity, whom the foul fiend vexes!

Aloha again Night Owl! ((HUGS))

Some sun, some vexations resolved and a little trip with my son.

Hearing from all my folks back in the mainland who welcomed last winter's mildness and rued the loss of cherry and pecan harvests, it sounds like we're about to have a contentious winter this year. C'est le réchauffement de la planète.
