Minnesota state and local taxes were 13th highest in the nation per capita in 2010, while the state ranked 15th highest in spending per person.

Those were among the findings in a new Minnesota Taxpayers Association annual report on state and local taxes and spending that was released Wednesday, Sept. 26. It was based on recently released U.S. Census Bureau data for 2010.

“The findings suggest that Minnesota’s moderate increases in tax collections were largely similar to the experiences of other states,” the report said.

Minnesota’s state and local taxes per $1,000 of income increased 2.5 percent from 2009 to 2010 — a rise small enough to drop the state down one spot in the national tax rankings.

The state and local governments collected $4,587 per person in taxes in 2010. They took $110 per $1,000 of income.

“Minnesota’s above-average tax rankings combined with closer-to-average spending rankings reflect less reliance on federal revenues and non-tax revenues, such as user fees and charges, than many other states,” the report said.

Yep, Jesse Ventura and Tim Pawlenty were both great bench warmers for Democrats to walk back in the Governors office and takeover right where they left off at. And Ventura was even for a sales tax, in his book...

Yup they like to waste money. Raised our property taxes by taking away the homestead deduction to. I think that was done to keep the D in the gov office happy.

Anoka county (Where I live) thankfully did the right thing and lowered everyone’s property taxes. If I where in Ramsey or Hennepin I’d bet they’ed take the extra from the homestead credit being gone and then some.

To Minnesota I say good riddance. Business hostile, parochial, and out of touch with economic reality.

Hey Rosemount (Emerson Process Management), when are you going to move your plant to Texas or Louisiana?

Is that bad because of the unlucky number 13?
