This incident reminded me how badly we need a genuine conservative party. Republicans like Rove, Kristol, Will, etc. just suck.

So while we are twisting in the wind over a single dumb comment, we are denying ourselves a principled conservative -- someone who will fight the unglamorous but necessary battles that all the others ignore. It's not the single, dumb rape comment that may well cost Akin the seat. It's the other comments he's made and which he will make that could do it.

It wasn't just the moderates, good conservatives like Michelle Malkin and Mark Levin asked him to step down as well. Akin made a huge mistake, but it's time to let it go.
I hope he can pull this one off.

I’ve not heard of any other comments, so kindly enlighten me. I have heard he is a fine conservative, and will stick by that until proven otherwise.

The incident reminds me of how the people turned their back on Jesus Christ. I am not saying Akin is Jesus Christ obviously, but there were a bunch of traitors to conservativism during the whole BS ordeal. Most surprising are the traitors on Free Republic who wanted to kick a great conservative to the curb. Hopefully they are so embarrassed by their behavior that they will never treat another conservative as badly.

Why are you so invested in defeating Akin? IF Akin loses so will Romney, and the GOP-e are beginning to discover that Missourians in majority despise Obamacare, hear that Romneymites. Ballot initiatives will be what brings out the voters, and there is a healthcare initiative on the Missouri ballot this year. Funny how people who have NO vote for or against Akin think they are the smartest person in any given room.

If you wouldn’t mind rephrasing, I’m not understanding what your question is asking.

R&R are going to win Missouri. I don't see many people pulling the lever for them and switching over to Ubama's little girl for Senator.

Let's see. There is his statement against Social Security. His recent comments that for the government to provide healthcare is unconstitutional - thus painting him as believing Medicare and veteran's healthcare programs are illegal. There's his comparison of student loans, a program that thousands of people across the state depend on for financing their kid's education, to stage 3 cancer. His position that the federal government should not be funding student lunches. And his sudden conversion from being a major supporter of earmarks to being completely opposed to them. Now many of those comments have been taken somewhat out of context by McCaskill, but considering a big part of her campaign strategy is to paint Akin as too far out of the mainstream for Missouri voters then he's been playing right into her hands and providing her with her ammunition. Akin is also broke; he doesn't have the money to counter her media message. His only hope is outside PACs. And the question is if he's worth their time and money?
I would like to see Akin win, but I don't think he will and I think that taking the Senate is too important. I would rather see money spent on keeping Republican seats in Massachusetts and Nevada and Arizona, and taking Democrat seats in Wisconsin and Connecticut and Montana and Virginia and North Dakota. Those are a lot of seats in play, and a finite amount of money available. I suggest spending it where it will do the most good and not on a candidate as inept at Akin is.

Hopefully we can now declare the “Akin watch party” officially over. He is our candidate, period. Let us move forward and try to get him elected. Six more years of ministration by the miscreant Mother McCaskill is a fate worse than death...

Republicans of every stripe denounced him and called for his resignation. They shriveled like raisins under the magnification of liberal media memes. Spineless, gutless, unprincipled chickens, intellectually lazy, unwilling to pause and study the meaning and intent of Akins' remarks. How Malkin and Levin et al are counted among them is beyond me. Rove and his ilk, not so much. We do not deserve to live in a free country if we indulge ignorant, lemming-like behavior when it comes to protecting and defending the lives of innocent unborn citizens. Akin's got more principle than the bulk of the population. He ought to be counted as one of the best conservative candidates possible. [He's already planning jails and execution chambers for all those raped women who abort their children! /s]
To: Lakeshark
Yep, it’s up to the people of Missouri now. What happens in this election McCaskill vs. Akin is going to tell us a lot more about the voters of Missouri than it does about Todd Akin.

welcome newbie......in just before the election.... Thanks, gramps. Happy to be here.

We need at a net pickup of at least 4 seats to gain a majority. Maine is lost so that means we need to pick off Democrats in 5 states. Two current Republican seats are vulnerable, so that total may rise. Given the job before them, I don't see backing Akin as a wise use of limited funds.
nothing Akin has ever said is worse than what Reid, pelosi, bammey, etc have said, and done...
Probably. But that's not how he's being painted, thanks to his own words.

How Malkin and Levin et al are counted among them is beyond me. Mark switched over and got with the program on his Facebook site yesterday, citing DeMint, Santorum, and Gingrich. Palin (at least her C4P site) still won't quit bagging on Akin though.
