5 Reasons to Intervene in Syria Now
NY Times ^ | Sep 26 2012 | Michael Doran and Max Boot

WHETHER you agree or disagree with President Obama, there is no doubt that he has formulated a coherent approach to the use of American power. The Obama Doctrine involves getting into a conflict zone and getting out fast without ground wars or extended military occupations. This approach proved its effectiveness in Libya last year.

But the president is not applying his own doctrine where it would benefit the United States the most — in Syria

all these people who are calling for a US intervention in syria, who the hell do they think will take over ? the “rebels” are the same muzzie mob that was in egypt and libya.

if assad goes the way of mubarak and gaddafi, it will only increase the power of the muslim brotherhood

Stay as far away from Syria as possible

The best outcome for the USA is what is happening now - Assad and the Islamists in a long death struggle which neither wins.

Yeah - let’s spend time, money and blood to set up yet another regime that will thank us with anti-American demonstrations and threats to kill us and tear down our way of life.

Oh yeah. Let’s give Bammy’s Jihad brotherhood another country and it’s WMD.

Let them slaughter each other. It feeds their never ending thirst for blood and keeps them from uniting to harass and slaughter the us.

Right.. and do we have volunteers to serve as Ambassador and die violently at an unguarded embassy in Damascus on the next 9/11 after this ballyhooed intervention brings yet another gaggle of jihadis to power?

Who would like to be Obama`s next bumps in the road?

To borrow a line from Tallyrand, Neoconservatives have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.
Helping Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood take another country will not lead to peace, democracy or liberty. Giving Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood weapons of mass destruction will no make the US, Israel, or Syria more secure. If will not lead to will not lead to peace, democracy or liberty.
Having Iranian Shia Islamists and Sunni Islamists killing each other is in our interest.

Really? Ask our Libyan Ambassador if Obama’s approach proved effective. Oh that is right. You can’t ask him because he was slaughtered along with 3 other Americans

The only wars that the US should be involved with should have a plan for total destruction of our enemies and them a return home ASAP.obamao does not have that in him. libya and egypt are examples of him ****ing up the ME. Screw the times... they hate war if a dim does not wage it!

I just read where McCain (D/RHino) was in favor of intervention in Syria .
Given that the Benghazi attack was by rebels whom we had (probably) armed , and probably led by one of our Guantanemo inmates , who was still supposed to be still imprisoned ....

H*LL NO !!

Just one reason why we shouldn’t. we are war weary.

We are almost broke, another war will crash the country, our military is at the point where it gets more suicides than battlefield deaths, we don’t know how to come home, once the war ends, we start nation building.

“The Obama Doctrine involves getting into a conflict zone and getting out fast without ground wars or extended military occupations.”

The Obama Doctrine involves capitulation and degredation of our military capacity.

There are NO good reasons to get involved in Syria.

Let the s.o.b.s wipe each other out.

If Saudi Arabia doesn’t want an Iranian Client-state on its northern border (it doesn’t) let Saudi Arabia spend its oil dollars and lives fighting Bashir and his Iranian allies.

We should allow ourselves to become Dhimmi Dupes.

Our MAIN enemy right now is Iran and if we took out Iran, their support for Bashir would lessen and perhaps the Saudis and Syrians would annihilate one another in a long bloody war (pleasant thought).

As for the rebels - they are the same kind of Muslim religious fanatics as took over Egypt. The heck with them.

the editors of the NY times are not as ignorant as they always appear

we (the U.S.) are, and have been since day one, involved in Syria as much or more than CIA “advisors” were once involved early on in South Vietnam - the media just sqaushes the reports to this fact as fast as they ocassionally manage to break out

the U.S., using CIA and state department assets - money, people and materiel, usually funneled into and through “international” NGOs and U.S. internationally meddling foundations - has been part of a 10 year old “regime change” program against Syria; only, just like in Afghanistan, others, particularly the Saudis and the MB this time, have been operationally more involved on the ground

things went awry with the Arab Spring; the externally assisted and created “Syrian opposition” was not really mature enough to take on Assad, directly

those in the know locally knew this was true, but Washington and their Middle East associates on the regime change agenda wanted action anyway

some say that resulted in knowing creation of “martyrs” to help move the rest of the population to join the immature opposition movement

so, we already have blood on our hands in Syria

yet, winning will mean what??

it will mean another victory for the Saudis and the MB, that’s what.

And why should we help produce that “victory”?

we shouldn’t.

We (the west) have been used, literally, in the modern incarnation of the ages old blood fued within Islam between the Sunni and the Shia; this time represented by uber-fundamentalist Wahabi-driven Saudi Arabia on the Sunni side, and uber-fundamentalist Iranian-Mullah driven elements on the Shia side. Syria is the current proxy venue for that fued.

The U.S. does not have a true ally between the two of them; they are both and collectively, along with the Muslim Brotherhood responsible for the rise of 7th Century militant Islamism, politically, in our time. We have no true “winners” to back on any side in Syria.

As unfortunate as it is, we need to stay out, and further, we need to get out of Syria (we are there now).

These guys don’t know their beloved Obama very well, do they?

Obama would go if the UN says it is OK. We went into Libya because the UN said it was OK and it wasn’t Obama that decided no boots on the ground—it was the UN. (that is also why there are WMD’s and other dangerous weapons loosed now)

With Libya, China and Russia abstained from the vote. So NATO was able to go forward. With Syria, China and Russia said NO! Obama will never go against the UN.

Tail wags dog trial balloon. Since we’re out of Benghazi now, we’re free to go be victim to some more bumps in the road and help create a crisis 30 days from the general election.

If it could blow up in Obama’s face before the vote I’d be all for it but the media would paint him the hero as our men died for Islam.
