Virgil Goode will stay on Va. ballot after Cuccinelli finishes probe

Former congressman Virgil Goode Jr. will remain on Virginia’s presidential ballot after state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II concluded an investigation into fraud allegations leveled at Goode by the state Republican Party.

Cuccinelli found, according to a news release from his office, that “while there may have been certain irregularities, nothing he examined would prevent Goode from being certified for the Virginia ballot in the upcoming November presidential election.”

Goode represented southwest Virginia in the state Senate and then in Congress for a combined 36 years, as a Democrat, an Independent and then a Republican. Now he is running for president as the Constitution Party nominee, and Republicans in Virginia and other states have sought to keep him off the ballot out of concern that he might take votes from Mitt Romney (R).

Looks like Romney was able to get another rival thrown off the ballot in Virginia.

Even though he's a Republican too, Cooch follows the law.

Absolutely. If Mr. Goode were on the ballot in every state I might feel differently.

But he isn’t.

It sure does prevail!

Even if you have absolutely no shot of winning because you are only running for “political shenanagins” which Mr. Goode is doing.

I'm all for a third party. The most viable is the Libertarian Party which has existed in it's present form since the 1960’s. They had a few seats in the House, I don't know if they still do. Their candidates generally run as “R”s so they can get some traction.

Mitt wasn't my choice...but I'm not voting for Gary Johnson either.

I’ve become suspicious of Democrats turned Republicans and then do things like this. The Republicans better start waking up that they’re being infiltrated.

Bashing conservatives again I see. First Akins and now Virgil Goode. Boy you guys are just so transparent. Just say you want a liberal in the White House and get it over with.

I bet you were pissed off at the pesky Reagan who was Democrat and turned Republican. You probably were disgusted. Vote conservative for a change.

The VA GOP needs to go after Obama Eligibility and get Obama off the ballot

Makes you wonder why the VA GOP would go after Goode...but not Obama? Birther or Supporter?

The GOP would never have to worry about a Third Party Candidate if they ran solid conservatives.

Concern about Goode “taking away votes” is just saying “Romney stinks”

I don’t bash conservatives, I do have issues with morons who run for POTUS in one swing state to satisfy their egos. And if you don’t like it well that’s tough sh7t.

I’m not voting for Johnson because I believe Goode is a better representative. He supports traditional marriage and the humanity of unborn children, which Johnson does not.

Virgil Goode has absolutely no chance of winning anything. Reagan would have been the first to acknowledge that and never would have considered seeking a third party run. He would have thrown his support behind the Republican.

That is not bashing? All you have to say is that he is a great conservative and respect him but I am not voting for him because I believe Romney although a liberal Republican has a better chance of kicking Obama to the curb. Don’t you think that is a more fair look at this?

I recently became aware of Virgil Goode through other FReepers and did a little checking up on him. I have to admit, almost no other candidate even approaches his level of staunch conservatism. I am impressed.

I hope he throws his hat in the ring in 2016 (if we're eveb still around.)
