Yesterday a concerned father forwarded to me a letter from his son in Afghanistan. I confirmed authenticity, and republish with permission:
Dad,
I am fed up. I cannot believe the lack of attention the recent changes in this war is receiving by the media or the country. I think I saw one thing on CNN about the following subject, but I had to dig extensively to find it. The purpose of this letter is to let you know of the garbage that our soldiers are going through right now. With this knowledge, I hope that you take action by writing your congressmen.
First, because of the recent green on blue incidents or “insider threats” as the new buzz phrase dictates, all coalition forces in Afghanistan have completely stopped partnering with the ANA, AUP, and ALP in order to prevent the death of anymore CF casualties by ANSF or Taliban disguised as them. This is also greatly spurred by President Karzi’s indifferent attitude and lack of action to take measures to prevent further insider attacks.
Second, because of this massive change in policy (and complete change in mission) all U.S. forces are forbidden to actively patrol their AO and are to remain on their respective COPs/FOBs. There are only a few exceptions to this rule and they all pertain to “hardening” highway 1 in our AO. We have received orders that clearly state that all CF will no longer be allowed to drop air to ground munitions within the country of Afghanistan. This preempts Karzi’s announcement that will be made shortly that states the above mentioned order, making it a tactical directive that he is ordering.
To the first point: Our mission in Afghanistan is to partner with the ANSF on all levels. Now the policy makers are telling us that we are not allowed to do that and further more we are to take immediate measures to secure ourselves from the ANSF that are co-located with us. So the question now becomes, what is our mission? Furthermore, the implication is that we have absolutely no reason to still be in this country if we are not partnering with the ANSF. So why are we here?
To the second point: I don’t think that the American citizens would be happy if they knew that their soldiers were being prohibited from defending themselves in any way because of politically driven orders, but that is precisely what is happening in this war right now even as I write this letter. The soldiers of the U.S. never engage the enemy unless we know that we have will always have the tactical advantage in defending ourselves, that advantage is the use of close air support and air weapons team. To take those weapons away from us is to level the playing field for the enemy and thus exposing our soldiers to more danger. In the school house they teach us that the minimum ratio that we are to engage the enemy with, is a 3:1 ratio. In other words, we have the highest probability of winning because we don’t fight fair. The sound tactical principles behind this teaching have saved lives. The very presence of aircraft over our foot patrols has also saved lives and now our chain of command is being told by our political leadership that this is now not allowed. If we are not partnering with the ANSF and we are not actively patrolling to prevent our enemies from massing their attacks on our COP and we can’t drop a bomb on the enemy that we have positively identified, than what the hell are we doing here?
I think our communist (Democrat) representatives purposefully tie the hands of our miltary servicemen in a war because they actually DO like seeing America's greatest patriots die. Just another way of eliminating the opposition to their totalitarian communist agenda. The patriots that die on the battlefield won't be coming home and voting for the opposition. Or reproducing, and training up anymore patriots down the line.

0bama is keeping our troops in theater after we’ve already surrendered. That has got to be the most demoralizing, degrading thing any soldier can endure. I’d have a difficult time keeping my contempt for my CIC under wraps. Prayers up for our troops. They have the worst possible CIC at the worst possible time.
I would not serve in the military today with this CIC. And if I was in the military today I would refuse to go to war with the current ROE. I’d be locked up but I would be alive.

I’ve had soldiers return from Afghanistan tell me that the suicide rate is so high due to O’Bummer’s rules of engagement. They can’t defend themselves when they are shot at without fear of court martial. They are frustrated beyond belief. The stories I am hearing are about one big cluster%#@!.

Is this 0bama’s way of announcing open season on our troops?
This reminds me of “Clear and Present Danger” where the American Special Forces are abandon.
If this can be traced back to the CIC, I’d like to be on the jury. Treason, no doubt about it.
It’s OK, Obummer will make it up to them by being very diligent in counting their presidential ballots.

Actually, the whole letter just reads strangely to me, come to think of it. Doesn’t seem like something written at the front, or by a soldier. It just seems... odd. I can’t put my finger on it. Perhaps if I’d gotten more than seven hours sleep (total) in the last three days...
Should be re-titled, it’s not really a war so why call it one? It’s a lame attempt at nation building. Trying to remake 7th century Muslims into nice guy liberal western civilization types is not a war, its an exercise in frustration.
The straight military doesn’t multiple vote Democrat. What’s better than to deny them CAS, have them all killed, while making noise about “noble sacrifice,” and blame the Shuri faction of Islam?
We are at war and the president of The United States, is on the wrong side.

There have been several others recently with a very similar message. Troops letter home to their parents and/or congressman. I think the last one was them being ordered to patrol through a field filled with IEDs everyday.
Michael Yon knows the military and he says he’s verified this.
Next will be a ban on loaded weapons.
This war was lost way before Obama, when victory was defined as building a strong national government. It won’t work because nobody outside of a handful of cities want’s a strong national government. They are tribesmen and warriors, and a national governmnet threatens threatens their power, their way of life, and their identity. So it unites them against us.

The Muslims have not Infiltrated the Top Levels of Government they are Institutionalized.

This may not be a popular opinion here on FR, but the Afghanistan campaign ran off the tracks long before Obama got into the White House. Just ask yourself why the disgraceful conduct of the war doesn't even get mentioned in Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.
Obama and his entire administration are anti-American to their core. The fact that they are actively trying to lose in AFG, as well as disenfranchise the military vote, should come as no surprise to anyone.

That’s true and you have to go back far before the Afghanistan to find an example of the US allowing its military to win a war.
But that doesn’t excuse what’s going on now.
Already in place. On bases no magazines in the weapons. Not sure if non security forces are even allowed to carry mags. I have seen pictures from flight lines and talked to AF personnel directly that confirm this.
